"an exceptional find..." IF you have any sense of culture, this is the hotel for you. The old, first floor large rooms look onto the cloisters and are altogether remarkable. Sparsely but comfortably and suavely decorated and you step seamlessly out of this oasis into the middle of town - palais des papes about 5 minutes walk. Also a small pool on the roof.

"Beautiful building & great location" Tucked away, this hotel is very deceptive as it is right where you want to be in Avignon and still has a car park! The building itself is impressive and makes you feel very special. The front desk staff were really helpful, giving us a map of the town, telling us what to see, where is best to eat etc...with no prompting- just genuinely friendly! We stayed in the modern rooms which although quite 80's in decor were clean, comfortable and huge with an enclosed balcony with big windows and great view of a pretty courtyard. There is practically no choice of room service but loads of places to eat nearby as it is very close to everything. I would definately recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

"Splendidly Spiritual and Romantic!" For the "Avignon experience" which has spiritual, romantic and political undertones, this hotel is exactly right! As should be easily noted from the photographs attached to this review, the Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis amplifies the exact experiences that embody Avignon, secular and sacred, romantic and spiritual, all at the same time. In addition, the hotel is easy to find, has a good restaurant and room service, and is close to all things important about Avignon. The staff was remarkable and did a great job following up on forwarding items to us in Madrid that we had accidentally left behind at the hotel. Although our room was on the Spartan side, it was spacious and airy -- at night, it was just plain magical (see attached photos). The photos at all the sites, including the official hotel site (Google "Hotel Cloitre Saint Louis") do not do the courtyard rooms justice, or the courtyard. The chambre superieures (superior rooms) are on the courtyard. I don't know how to compare them to the other rooms at the hotel since I did not view the other rooms but, in my opinion, it would be difficult to find a more romantic room at night in Avignon (see my attached photos). The hotel was very kind to us as honeymooners, and presented us with a welcoming bottle of champagne, fruit and chocolate candy.
