Originally built in the 15th century, some of the decorations inside the hotel were completed by the great artist Pinturicchio, whose works can also be seen inside the Vatican Museums. LOCATION

The Columbus Hotel is located on the important Via della Conciliazione which leads from the Castel Sant'Angelo to St. Peter's Square and the entrance to the Vatican City. In the mornings there is a constant flow of buses and cars passing the hotel bringing tourists and pilgrims to the Vatican. In the eveningtime there is a peaceful tranquility as the area is closed down for the night, only to spring back to life again in the morning.
A five minute walk from the hotel will bring guests inside the colonnades of St. Peter's Square facing the largest church in the Christian world, St. Peter's Basilica, with the magnificent dome created by Michelangelo. Exiting the square to the right and following the Vatican Walls guests will come to the entrance of the Vatican Museums and the famous Sistine Chapel.
After exploring the Vatican guests can walk back down the Via della Conciliazione towards the River Tiber. The first main monument beside the river is the Castel Sant'Angelo and the awesome Bridge of Angels, designed by Bernini.
Buses to various parts of the city can be found on the road alongside the river or close to the Vatican Walls. The metro station of Ottaviano is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel and with the metro guests can reach the Spanish Steps, the Via Veneto and Termini station.
There are plenty of shops and restaurants as well as grocery stores close to the Vatican area.
