"Very pleased with my stay"
In looking for a hotel, some people seek a brand-new place with massive rooms, wide elevators, total quiet and not a piece of chipped paint in the place. This is not the hotel for such people. On the other hand, if you like a place with real historic charm, a small but comfortable and attractive room, good service and a fine location at a terrific price, then you will enjoy staying here. My experiences with the staff were all very good ones, especially when I locked myself out of my room. The woman who helped me called to the front desk to verify that I was the person in the room and went and let me in and was very cheerful about it. The front desk staff treated me well, too. This is supposedly the oldest continually operating hotel in Boston--it was built in the 1890s. It can be a touch tricky to find--do not confuse it with the Copley Plaza on Copley Square (where I was incorrectly referred by a passerby when I sought directions). This hotel is a block or so to the west of that, near the Boston Library and the Prudential Center. The area felt safe, and there is a large Shaw's Supermarket open 24 hours a day across the street. It is a three block walk to the Green Line of the T (Copley Station); the Prudential Center station is a few blocks further away. I thought the hotel itself was in very well cared for condition for an old place. The lobby is quite attractive, and there are two restaurants and a nightclub on site. The elevator is very small and narrow, but I like taking the stairs. Unlike many hotels that have dreadful stairs they try to keep you away from, the stairs here are very wide, open and attractive--I liked that very much. The room I had was small but had a very high ceiling and an interesting shape. I was on the 4th floor, one room from the end of the hall. I had a fine view of the Prudential Center out my window facing north. I liked the bathroom with the old tile walls, though it is true that there was only a shower and no bathtub. The other reviewer is right about their environmental commitment--they even have, alongside the Gideon Bible, a book on how people can help take care of the environment. The room was in fine condition and was very clean. The TV worked well and had a full cable selection including HBO. One can hear street noise from the room, but it was not too distracting. I have a new favorite Boston hotel, and this one is it. If you like this area of town, as I do, other nearby hotels include the Lenox (owned by the same people; guests at the Copley Square have exercise privileges there) a block or two away; there is a Courtyard by Marriott next door too.

"loved the copley"
I was a bit worried about going to this hotel after reading some of the reviews. I THINK IT MIGHT BE A BIT OF LUCK WITH THE ROOM ALLOCATION. We had asuite of two rooms for only two of us,both rooms were huge and very comfortable. Although still a small bathroom we did have a bath and a shower.Lovely big windows and a view of trinity church. Fantastic location and great staff especially cynthia on reception.We had B&B rate and the breakfast was excellent,great service lovely staff. we would stay here again.
