"Superb stay"
We booked for the school February half-term break and we needed to take Mother-in-Law with us because she said that no one ever wanted to go away with her!
I searched the Sea France website for a special offer and they suggested the Cottage Hotel in Calais for the price that we could afford.
What a superb offer it turned out to be.
We arrived at 1pm and were allowed into our rooms even though it was before the 2pm time.
The rooms were large enough and the storage space big enough for a short stay.
However, the room did smell a little of smoke and needed to be aired ----- this smell did linger a little especially when the window had been shut for a while.
The shower was adequate for a short break (I'm a bath person really) but it did need a non-slip mat and handles for Mother-in-Law to be able to make use of it.
The food was absolutely tremendous ----- there's no other word for it! The first evening we went with the 18 euro menu and that was too much even for a big eater like me. The next two nights we went for the 14 euro menu and that was still more than adequate. The breakfasts were buffet style and were also very very good.
We did tour the local hypermarkets and the museums and even spent a day visiting Brugge and the southern Netherlands so that we could say that our visit covered three different countries (four if you count the UK!)
With regard to value for money ----- we booked the B and B package with ferry through Sea France so all we had to pay for at the Cottage Hotel was for the evening meals. We each had three three-course meals with wine and brandies afterwards and then Mother-in-Law asked me to pay and she'd settle up afterwards. So, on the morning of departure, I settled the bill with the Hotel, divided it by three, converted it into pounds sterling and told Mother-in-Law that her share was a massive £43!!!!!
Will we go again?
The answer is "yes" as long as we can find several new attractions to visit within easy drive of Calais.
Would we consider a one-night stay with a visit to the local alcohol stores?
Yes indeed.
Would we take Mother-in-Law again?
Of course -------- even though she's an Everton supporter and I'm a "Happy Hammer".
Was this hotel stay value for money?
Absolutely.

"Cheap & Cheerful - Excellent budget hotel"
stayed 2 nights at the cottage. Arrived around midnight and the night porter (phillipe) was very welcoming. Stayed at the bar until 1.30am. Drinks reasonably prices.
The rooms are basic but have everything you need - shower / hairdryer / tv / tea & coffee.
The hotel is very clean. The breakfast is good - plenty of choice from croissants/toast/ham/cheese/english cereals/bread/yoghurts/fruit.
Free carparking. Easy to find.
Highly recommended. |
