"More than a three-star hotel"
We stayed in the Marriott Courtyard Seestern in Düsseldorf in December 2004. The hotel apparently underwent refurbishment during 2004 and actually looks better than in most fotos on the net. I would clearly rate it a four-star establishment. Room was medium to large, tastefully furnished with mini bar, spacious desk, comfortable arm chair, air conditioning with adjustable temperature. Bath room was medium size with modern and efficient bath / shower. Everything was impeckably clean. However, no tea/coffee facilities. We actually brought our own kettle.
We particularly enjoyed the pool area with sauna, deckchairs and free mineral water. There are also various fitness machines. A fluffy bathrobe and slippers for the pool / sauna are delivered to your room if you phone reception and ask for it. The breakfast buffet had a large choice of foods - English breakfast, Sushi, different breads, cheeses, sausages, fish, cake, fruit, juices, cereals... The English breakfast was a bit cold but the other foods were delicious.
Transport into the city centre was unproblematic. The tram/underground station "Seestern" was about 100 metres away, the bus stop "Seestern" was right in front of the hotel. In the evening after 19.30 or so there were no direct trains, but the nearest tram/underground station for trains till late at night ("Prinzenallee") was within walking distance (about 500 metres).
We got a very good deal, i. e. 61 Euro per room per night incl. breakfast. For this price, I would clearly give the hotel the 5 out of 5.
