Croce di Malta hotel the ideal place for tourists and business people...
Set in old Florence just a few steps away from Santa Maria Novella, Croce di Malta Hotel is the ideal place to find rest after an intense workday, an important conference or a lengthy visit to Florentine monuments. The hotel is located in what up until the mid 1800’s was the old Suore della Carità (Sisters of Charity) convent, which offered hospitality to Florence’s “poor, virtuous maidens”.
The convent was built on a pre-existing building from Roman times. Marble sculptures and reliefs date back from this period, as well as a splendid column decorated with an Ionic capital that can still be admired today in various areas of the hotel. |

LOCATION
Croce di Malta Hotel is located only a few steps from both the Arno River and the Santa Maria Novella railway station. The church of the same name makes up one of the corners of an ideal triangle of works of art linking Piazza Santa Maria Novella, the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza Duomo, all of which only a few minutes’ walk away.

"Superb service from the staff"
I've got to admit that I was worried about this hotel when I read some of the other reviews here!
When we arrived at the Croce Di Malta, the receptionist told us that we were being moved to another hotel as the water main had burst outside and there was no water in our room. She had everything arranged and we checked in at a similar standard of a hotel 100 yards down the road with no hassle at all.
The next day she arranged for our baggage to be picked up whilst we were sightseeing and our rooms were waiting for us when we got back that evening. Our aircon leaked, but they sent someone up within a few minutes to fix it and they also cleaned the carpet while they were there.
The rooms were nice and clean, with lots of character and comfy beds. We were on the back of the building so it was nice & peaceful. Breakfast was good, with a choice of most things except fresh fruit. Staff were good at finding you a table even when everywhere looked full.
During our stay, one of our group had to call the doctor out. The receptionist arranged it and a doctor arrived very quicklly. As we didn't have enough cash to pay the doctor, the receptionist lent us the money!
When we came to check out, the receptionist was again very helpful, calling us a taxi and not quibbling over the bill when we found some items on it that we hadn't had.
I was impressed by this hotel - the staff were amazing, going much further than they had to to help and sorting out problems as quickly as they could.
My one tip for this hotel would be to try the roof bar, it is a great place to see the sunset.

"I enjoyed my stay..."
I stayed here in February 2004 and really enjoyed it. I was very happy with it's central location, along with it being close to the termini. I was traveling alone so being close to sites and services were important to me. The hotel staff and environment were great! The decor and atmosphere are very inviting and comfortable. The staff was very helpful and accomendating, they made my stay very enjoyable. |
