"Good Value, Good Location, Does What It Says On The Tin"
3 of us stayed here back in March 2005 and found it a good base for discovering Budapest.
With a metro station outside it was easy to get out and about quickly. The room was a decent size with 2 single beds and a sofa bed, breakfast was great and there was a pub and supermarket close to hand.
We used the Astoria as a place to sleep and change and have no complaints at all

"Loved the Astoria"
My friend and I stayed in the Astoria over New Year 2006/07. Having read some of the reviews we were a little worried. No need to be however as the Hotel was great. Lovely rooms if a little dated in style but freshly decorated, clean and newly installed bathrooms. The breakfasts were great, everything you could think of and more! The staff were very friendly and professional with no request being too much. I would certainly stay here again and would recommend it to other travellers. Not only is the Hotel great but it's in the perfect location.

"Fantastic hotel, great location"
My husband and I stayed at this hotel in February with some friends. It was in a fantastic location, very easy to find and within walking distance to many of the city's attractions. It was also based on top of a metro station and had a tram stop right outside.
We found the if not exactly friendly. They were happy for us to leave our bags in their luggage room until it was time for us to go to the airport.
We were staying in one of the newly renovated rooms which were great, very spacious and clean. Some noise could be heard from the builders, but this was only if we were there during the day. The breakfast room is amazing and the breakfast itself very good.
For the price we paid I think this was one of the best European hotels we have ever stayed in and I would not hesitate to stay there again if we return to Budapest.

"Loved it!"
My husband and I stayed at the Astoria for two nights and I think we got more than we paid for. We were given a suite with one bathroom and a separate WC. It was newly refurbished so everything was immaculate. Staff were very friendly as well. Breakfast was excellent. Location is very good, walking distance to restaurants and shops. Only took us half an hour to walk to the Buda district. Good transport links with the metro a few steps away.

"Excellent value"
We stayed at the Astoria in January 2005 and I have to say it was excellent value. The hotel is right by the Astoria metro station and in the middle of Pest with lots of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. We stayed on the fourth floor which was being renovated, so that would explain the fresh state of the room (they were still working on other rooms). It was very spacious and well decorated with both a minibar and satellite TV. The bed was big and comfortable. Breakfast is served in the lovely restaurant downstairs and was adequate (continental with scrambled eggs and bacon available as well).
A sticker in the wardrobe said that the room rate was EUR180 per night (excluding breakfast), although we managed to get it for EUR57 (including breakfast) with an internet booking agency. I'm not sure if it was the low season or the renovation (or a combination of both) that made it so cheap but if that price is available, I would definitely stay there again as it is fantastic value for money.
One possible drawback with the hotel is that is located on a busy road and while the sound proofing is OK, you could still hear the traffic. Light sleepers might want to ask for a room not facing the road.
