"Another Wow, beautiful hotel, idyllic location"
We spent an extended weekend at the Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromess in August 2006. Wow, what a beautiful hotel, not only is it beautiful from the exterior, the interior is really amazing. We had a lake view room, the view was to die for. People continually stopped to take pictures of the hotel, it is just so breathtakingly beautiful to look at. Where do we start, transfers from MXP, mercedes with English speaking driver cost 135 euro, we missed our flight thanks to BA and BAA, the hotel sent the car to pick us up from our later flight and the driver had to wait two hours as BA had lost our luggage. This was not a problem and no additional charge was made. When we arrived at the Hotel, Roberto on the front desk and Raffael the concierge were just so kind and understanding they made all the hassle we had been through much easier. They asked for our lost luggage form and took over it's recovery. They supplied us with essential toiletries to get us by. Breakfast was buffet style, taken in the main restaurant or outside. There was a large choice of food, the hotel's own news sheet in several languages, service was good, polite but not over friendly. Dinner from a set menu was 68 euros, or ala carte, i thought the wine was reasonably priced for a hotel of this quality and the grandeur of the surroundings. Service was good. The hotel has two swimming pools, probably a little dated in design, the main pool was fairly deep, while the other pool had two diving pools and was popular with youngsters. Sun loungers, towels and umbrellas were plentiful and the pool attendant was first class. I mentioned the bedroom earlier, a small balcony with table and chairs with amazing views. Quality toiletries in a superb bathroom, double basins, bidet, jacuzzi bath, shower, turn down service and change of towels nightly. The air con was fine and not noisy. We had read a review about mosquitoes, they love my wife and went prepared, but there were no mosquitoes during our stay. If you chose a garden view room, you will not be disappointed as the area to the back of the hotel is very picturesque. The bar area is at the front entrance of the hotel, excellent pianist , great cocktails service good to excellent depending on staff. In conclusion if you are looking for a memorable break in luxury surrounding, lovely staff and don't mind the cost this is the place. The best in Stresa, 10 minutes to the ferry, boats to the three islands close by, 10 minutes to the railway station. The best things in life may be free, but this hotel is worth every pennt. Enjoy.

"Honeymoon in Italy"
Beautiful hotel with an unforgettable view! Excellent staff. Great restaurant! We really liked this hotel on the lake. It has a beautiful view of the 3 Borommean Islands and is very close, walking distance to the tour boats. The breakfast is very good with a lot of options also. This was a great place to stay for our honeymoon. The spa services were excellent as well. The outdoor pool is old but a lot of fun with two diving boards. Great place to relax. Children are allowed here as well.

"Absolutely Beautiful"
I visited the Grand Hotel Des Iles Borromees for a work conference, and vowed to return for a honeymoon or other romantic getaway. It was beautiful, the staff was fabulous. I was one of about 100 guests for our event and several of the staff knew my name by day 2. I was very impressed. The food was fantastic as well. Delicious pastas and fish / seafood dishes. Everything was fresh. Not related to the hotel, but extremely relevant, if you plan on visiting this area in the summer (best time to go) don't forget your mosquito spray.
