During my stay (July 31-August 5 2008), the airco in my room and in many other rooms was not working. I complained twice. First time they promised to have it repaired. Second time they claimed that it was already repaired (am I really an idiot?) and only after too much insisting, they ordered the concierge to show me two other rooms. Both with a non-working airo. I am sure they must have known that! Apart from this, the tablecloths at the breakfast table are not renewed for the next guest, so better have your breakfast early if you don't like dirty tablecloths.

"Fantastic hotel in Prague"
I stayed at the Diplomat hotel from December 6-12, 2006. It was a perfect location. Not in the old town but only a few stops by metro from all the places you want to go. Took bus 119 after getting the week pass from the information desk in the airport. Only cost about $15 for unlimited transportation. Don't forget to stamp it on the bus when you first use it. The bus dropped me off right in front of the hotel. The room was very nice and so was the bathroom--duvet, down pillows, toiletries, great shower pressure, even liked the toilet paper!!! The buffet breakfast was perfect. All you can eat, both hot and cold food. It was totally adequate. Ate enough to get me through lunch. I felt safe going out at night to the opera and the symphony. The Christmas market in the main square was very pretty, didn't buy anything though, no comparison to the ones in Germany. The weather was wonderful, even though December is normally cold. Was perfectly comfy in my down coat and Merrell shoes. Did all my own touring. Went to Dresden by train on my own too. I would highly recommend this hotel (got it in a package through go-today.com - excellent value with the airfare and hotel included).

"This hotel ticks all the right boxes;"
This hotel ticks all the right boxes; good location (first stop on Metro A which will take you all around the centre of Prague and last stop for bus 119 from the Airport), spacious, warm, newly decorated rooms with huge baths and power showers and a vast, varied breakfast. All in all great value for money. My only complaint would be the bar tariff which is exceptionally high... opposite the hotel and around the corner by the bus depot is a small, friendly, locals (basement) bar where you can pick up a beer for around 70p. Booked hotel through Alpharooms.com. Enjoy Prague...!!

"Making up for others"
I would normally have given the hotel a 4 since there really wasn't anything overly special or fantastic about the hotel, but some of the lesser-ranked reviews need to be made up for. First, you're in a hotel. There are going to be other people there. Get over it. You may even find yourself shocked to find two hairs in a room that you pay much much more for. It's also Eastern Europe. Food service is different there than it is in the US, Canada, or in Western Europe. Realize where it is you're going. The hotel was nice. I had no problems with noise inside the hotel or outside the hotel. This despite the fact that there was an international billiards tourney going on and the location is along a major commuting route through the city. People, don't expect a palace, because it isn't. It's a good, clean, inexpensive hotel that caters to international travelers who don't want to deal with the hassles of the city center. And, if you're looking for a taxi from the airport to the hotel, don't use the bus or one of the ones outside the departure gates. They're both too expensive. Walk over to the nearby arrival gate and get one there. There's a cartel involved with the departures and you'll be gouged on the price! Happy Travels!

"Excellent Hotel"
Couldn't have asked for a better hotel , location as mentioned in other reviews was on the outskirts of town but so easy to get into the centre and from the airport . Lots of little bars and cafes in walking distance for people who thought the hotel prices were too dear but in my opinion if you stay in a better class hotel you except to pay that little extra . Staff were curtious and polite and had an excellent two night stay .

"Must read!! Way Beyond Expectations!! Perfect!"
As a tourist to a part of the world that is extremely foreign to you, the last thing you want is subpar accommodations at the end of the day to compound the language and directional difficulties you encounter. After consulting endless websites, travel books, friends and other sources, we settled on the Golden Tulip Diplomat based on it's positive reviews here and the price we were able to secure on the internet. I will admit, we knew nothing more than a few details about it, and were TERRIFIED! We also used the helpful bus information posted here by others (the #119 takes you right to the hotel!) and without it would have been lost right from the airport, as Prague locals are not usually even partly fluent in English. Upon arriving at the hotel, which we would have missed from the bus had we not noticed the fountain outfront as per the pictures on this site, we were instantly relieved by the modernity and size of the place. After all, you can't run a hotel this size and have it be awful. Sure enough, right from check-in, the staff were unbelievably friendly...even the manager who greeted us, asked about Vancouver,Canada (where we are from) and without even being asked, gave us an upgrade to a suite. The room itself was gorgeous!! Everything you become accustomed to in a top-notch North American establishment. Huge king bed, separate sitting room from bedroom, huge bathroom with all the amenities etc. My wife, who is very picky, said the room was one of her favourite parts of the trip!! That's saying alot since Prague is very beautiful. The hotel had a large lobby, and even a hotel bar and restaurant. There was complimentary buffet breakfast included, which had a large variety of foods, though it could have been a little better, but lots of choice in a huge dining hall. Also, if you are out late like we were and couldn't make the buffet, the hotel always made a continental breakfast available to you...even later in the day! And it was great with many breads, jams, teas, etc. The staff were absolutely perfect! Whether you needed directions, help with language, money exchanged, or just tips on local sights to see, restaurants, bars, anything! They were easy to understand, there was a daily concierge to aid tourists, and they were extremely friendly. As for the hotel being "out of the way". I tell you, I am so glad we were out of the way, because we went and viewed the other so-called "top-ranked" hotels we were going to stay at (ie. Hotel KK Fenix, where we had kept our reservation "just in case" and whose spartan rooms we even viewed and was twice the price!) and they were nowhere near as spacious as the Diplomat and didn't have remotely the same facilities. I was extremely disappointed with the KK Fenix with it's closet sized rooms+poor location, and we both thanked God we didn't commit to our reservation there!! There rooms are tiny, and very overpriced. As well, you don't need to be in the downtown core or near Wenceslas Square in this city, as the trams and subway run everywhere, and best of all...nobody pays!!! We stayed a week, and spent $21.00 Cdn on transit...and that includes cabs! We were told by the hotel staff, don't pay unless it is the beginning or end of the month, as that is when ticketing occurs. The Devijcka station subway stop is right outside the hotel front door, and it takes you in minutes to the downtown core...and I mean under 5mins. In ten minutes, you are clear across the city. As well, you can explore all the cities great sights (Charles bridge, Wenceslas Castle etc.) from this hotel with a couple of minute subway ride and short walk. When the subway closes (around 1:00am I believe for Devijcka station), you can still take the trams to the hotel. No problems! Lastly, there is a terrific little pub just around the corner from the hotel which is in a quiet residential type area which serves incredible food at a bargain basement price. We had 5beer, two appetizers, and two entrees for under $27 Cdn!!! And the place is modern, clean, has pool tables, and is great for meeting young locals. The hotels location was great for this and it was very quiet. We quite enjoyed the fact that we could go five minutes out our door and be in lively downtown, or walk out the back of the hotel and be in a beautiful quiet Prague residential area. OK...that is it! I am posting this review a year after staying at the Diplomat as I see that it has fallen out of the top 10 for Prague hotels. It was number #12 when we went last March, and I can't understand this. I HAVE TRAVELED MOST OF THE WORLD, AND IF YOU GO TO PRAGUE, FORGET WASTING YOUR MONEY ON THE SO-CALLED TOP RANKED PLACES. I PROMISE YOU THAT YOU WILL NEVER REGRET HEEDING MY ADVICE AND STAYING AT THE DIPLOMAT. YOU MAY HOLD ME TO THAT! GOOD LUCK!

"Fantastis Hotel"
This hotel was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in December 2004. The hotel is in a quiet area on the outskirts of Prague but there is an underground stop right by the hotel which takes you in to the city centre in no time. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Prague.

"Excellent"
Myself and my partner on stayed for 2 nights, we were pleasently suprised by the quality of the hotel for a 4 star. We tend to think that if a hotel in europe has 4 stars then it would be a 2/3 in the Uk, not so with this one. One work of warning, do not get caught on the subway without a ticket, it cost us @ £12 each, but I think we may have been lucky as we had used that amount during the 3 days. I will return there one day, hopefully sooner rather than later
