"Excellent value"
Great little hotel of the money. Plus points - immaculately clean - room even had a small balcony - fantastic friendly and helpful management. Minus points - our shower/WC was very small but our friends in next room had a large bathroom so pot luck I suppose. Main drawback is a little far out from the centre especially as the nearest tube station is currently closed. Also the area is pretty scruffy. From the outside the hotel looks basic but don't let this fool you it's fine inside. Overall - you won't get better value and friendlier staff but be prepared for a lot of walking!

"Great Hospitality!"
My fiance and I stayed at Hotel Donatello for 4 nights, checking in March 9. I tried to prepare him as best as I could for European hotels (and continental breakfast) but he took it in stride. The staff welcomed and encouraged conversation in our limited Italian. Overall, while the room was small, it was comfortable to come home to. We had a little small balcony that was nice. We had two twin beds close together. The TV was a decent size (19 inch?) with clear reception. When we were in the room, we would turn on CNN. The bathroom was small, with the shower stall wedged in the corner. If you are claustrophobic, you might want to check it out before settling into the room to see if they can switch you. The towels were really more like tablecloths which was kind of odd for me. One very interesting feature is that they have tv speakers in the bathroom ceiling so you can still listen to the news while in the bathroom. Breakfast was fine. The cafe latte is wonderful. The crusty rolls were nice and warm, and the croissants were pretty satisfying. The breakfast room lady was very sweet. Our first morning there, the breakfast room manager took some time out to orient us and point out some nearby points of interest. It made for a very memorable and authentic morning (Santa Croce and San Giovanni churches are nearby). While the Manzoni station is still closed, Vittorio Emanuaele station is a very reasonable walk from the hotel. Obviously the hotel isn't in the middle of everything, but you can still get a glimpse of Romans going to work, hanging out, etc. There is a water fountain nearby...very convenient and money saving. The little shops along Via Porta Maggiore was good for picking up snacks. Try a "locals" restaurant (where the menu isn't translated into 5 different languages) on Via Manzoni (I think) called Bobo's. Great ambience and terrific food, all washed down with limoncello on the house!

"Everything we wanted..."
We stayed at the Donatello from Sunday March 4th 2007 to Friday 9th. Cost for flight with Easy jet from East Mids with B&B was £230 each. The hotel wasn't hard to find because we'd checked it out on 'google earth' so felt we knew where it was. There is a 'Terriavision' (thats the company) Bus you can catch for 13euros return at Campino airprt. Their ticket both is in the arrivals hall. (Follow every one else, they all seemed to know about it). It goes to Romes main train/bus station called 'Termini'. Its not worth trying to make your own way there. You get dropped off the bus at the side of the train station. Walk through the station and out to your right to the bus depot. You can catch the No.105 bus (which is right in front of you) to the hotel. Its about 5 stops. You go past a park on the right then theres a supermarket not long after on a street corner/traffic lights. Push the bus bell then, yours is the next stop, its just after the Lancia Car Show Rooms. When you get off and the bus moves the hotels just across the road and to your right. You'll have to look at each building, its not real noticeable. More about the bus before the hotel. There's no need to pay! crazy system, they trust everyone to pre buy a ticket to slot into the machine on the bus but very few do. We bought one ticket and used it for each ride knowing it was out of date. Watch-they all do it. 'The Donatello' was lovely. Clean, good decor, comfortable bed, as mentioned before great showers.We did what someone said and took towels but there was no need. Theirs are thin but work! Breakfast was good, both quality and amount. The room you eat in is lovely. The location of the hotel is perfect. You can walk most places. The metro is close by for going that bit further. Its not too close to town to be loud, the area its in is quiet. Rome even at night wasn't scary. Safer than British cities. As everywhere you have to be switched on but if you are you'll be alright there. The sightseeing buses you can hop on and off are good value to save your legs. Rome is lovely. The sights, the culture, everything is great...for a short stay....not too long!

"Great place to stay"
My boyfriend and I stayed at that hotel in the beginning of August for 4 nights. The hotel is located near the center and has a central bus station just a few steps away. The hotel was clean and nice and the staff was very helpful. The service of Roberto who owns the place is excellent! I called the day before we arrived and got a good price of 80 Euro per night. Enjoy…

"Great little find in Rome"
We found this hotel to be a gem in Rome. The room was well appointed with attention to detail and we enjoyed the calm of the neighbourhood in which the hotel is situated. The place is really well worth recommending to fellow travelers, we noticed the owner always walking around and checking that his guests were well taken care of. By cab we were anywhere in the heart of Rome in about 5 minutes. Will definitely return.
