"Nice Place"
My family and I stayed 4 nights at the Donna Laura Palace. The staff was nice but neither person at the front desk spoke a lot of English but they tried. We had one of the suites (room 411) and the room was very nice for a family. It slept four but I would definitly recommend it for two because the sofa bed and the cot rolled in took up a lot of the walking room. The niciest thing about this room was our balacony, it was huge. It faced St. Peters and the Vatican and the balcony had 2 loungers, a table, and 2 regular chairs. You could have had a 50 person party on this balcony and the view was very nice. The breakfast was ok, the coffee was excellent, but the breakfast choices were kind of dull. The hotel is very clean and new. Marble everywhere and it is quiet. The hotel is a 10 minute walk 2 the spanish steps if you take the back way through the piazza del popolo which is only 5 minutes away. But for the rest of the sights you should take a cab fairly cheap usually took less than 6 minutes to arrive. No real restaurants or stores directly near the hotel because it is situated by nice apartments and locals. Overall, this was very nice hotel. We got an excellent deal on it and we didnt mind being away from the hustle and bustle near the sights. We will definitly stay here again when we return to Rome. But, if you do want to be near all the sights I recommend the Hotel Barberini which is a minute walk off the Via Veneto and close to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.

We stayed at the Donna Lauren Palace during the first part of OCtober 2005. Initially we wanted a reasonably priced hotel which was in the area of Rome reasonably close to the Vatican. The hotel was just under $200 a night. The hotel is located on a busy street used by commuters. It is set back from the street and the soundproofing is good. As long as you do not open the windows the noise is not noticed. The grounds are nicely landscaped. The lobby is small and the dining room is located on floor "-1" -- or "in the basement" for Americans. The is a small breakfast room also used for dinner on the main floor. Our room, a double, faced the front courtyard. It was nicely sized. The bed was 2 twins pushed together but made up as one bed. The mattress was firm and to our liking. The room contained a small refrigerator and a safe. The storage was good. The bath was very nicely decorated in marble. It contained all amentities including a bidet. The only issue was that the shower curtain could not keep the water from seeping over the front edge of the tub when a shower was taken. This resulted in a wet floor. The restaurant was OK. The food average and a bit overpriced. We found better food and better prices at "local' non tourist restaurants. The Hotel is about a 20 minute brisk walk from the Vatican proper. The walk to the Borghesia park takes you over the Tiber River. It is about a 20 minute brisk walk to the park or to the Piazza del Popolo. From the Piazza del Popolo you can wander down the the Via del Corso as far as the Colosseum. This can take you all day as you see the shops, churches stop for a coffee and see the many interesting side streets.
