Not really a good deal
The Dorian Inn is an impressive Hotel at first sight. Unfortunatly it lacks to fulfill the expections.
The location is near Omonia, a central square in Athens. Like all Hotels around it (and in the other neighbourhood Metaxourgiou) it is full with drug dealers and users. Dosed off people having the siringe still in their venes is a normal sight there even during the day and the hotel is right in the center of it. So it is not a good place to walk at night alone. You might not be harrassed or robbed, but still being asked for drugs is not really a favourited past time in one's holiday.
The rooms are not big and rather clean. Unfortunatly the bathroom is very small and the very small tub with the fixed shower head has nothing to prevent the water from splashing out during taking your shower. No door, no curtains. The effect is that the whole bathroom is flooded afterwards.
Air condition is not working well, it just blows some air into the room without cooling it right. During the night it is unuseable because it is very loud as you have to put it full power to make some effect (wich was on strangely enough the position 2, not 1 or 3 wich would be logical). All you get is a stiff neck. Unfortunatly with leaving the room you automaticly turn off the
Breakfast is like in most of the greek hotels rather bad. Cold eggs and saussages. Always there was something missing and you had to ask for it, being it forks, spoons or plates. Coffee is not very good, but this seems to be standard in greece. There is not much to chose from, the lack of variety at breakfast is rather sad. Only one kind of cold meat, two types of cheese and two types of jams to chose from. Rather disappointing.
The one thing that is better then the everage athenian hotel is the roofgarden on the twelfth floor. It has an magnificent view and a beautiful small pool.
Unfortunatly even this isn't without flaws: The waiters there seem to be rather helpless during the day. I did wait once for the typical greek cold coffee (frappé) for over half an hour and I was the only guest there. The next thing is that the roof garden turns into a posh restaurant at the early evenings. The hotel guests are send away rather harshly and if you are travelling alone and want to sit down for dinner on one of the small tables you are send to the bar to sit down there instead. Obviously they are not intrested in servicing the 'ordinary' hotel guest. But because of the bad location there is nowhere else to go without using the metro or taking a cab.
All in all there are better places to spend your days in Athens and still be near an underground station. Avoid the locations Metaxourgio and Omonia, try some different location like Monastiraki. This is also very touristy but much nicer (and probably safer) then this one here. The hotels in this area here might offer you a good deal, but you'll pay for it with not having any nice location near the place you stay. |

Rooftop is the saving grace
This hotel is adequate but the area is not good especially at night. If you are arriving after dark, bring some food with you! There is no place for dinner without getting in a cab to the safer areas of the city. The rooftop pool and bar were a pleasant surprise and a lovely oasis! The room was adequate but could use some upgrading..even for the price! |

"Dorian Inn Hotel an Excellent Choice!"
My wife and I stayed at the Dorian Inn Hotel last week and we can wholeheartedly recommend it. It is centrally located in downtown Athens and accessible to all areas for visitors, including walking to most tourist spots and with nearby subway and bus stops. The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated, with all amenities and very friendly, helpful service by all the staff. The view of the Acropolis is fantastic and the roof garden with bar and swimming pool were outstanding. Our meals in the hotel restaurant were tasty with a good menu. The price is a real bargain and excellent value compared to other hotels. We recommend the Dorian Inn Hotel without hesitation to all categories of visitors and we will definitely stay there again and have recommended it to our friends and relatives.

"Dorian was good"
Having just returned from our trip to Greece, I have feedback on the Dorian.....
First, the location makes this hotel desirable. The Acropolis is within walking distance and so are lots of shops and markets. This elimates the need for a taxi.
Second, the amenities are great. The breakfast buffet is one of the better I have seen. The 360 views from the roof are unbeatable (especially at night) and there is the added plus of being one of the few hotels with a pool..(a rooftop pool at that).
Third, and important to most is the value...this hotel was very reasonably priced thru GTA and well worth the $$$.
I'd like to add that you need to remember that Athens is a city..and with cities come dirt and traffic and noise. For Athens I do recommend this hotel.
