"Good Hotel for the Price"
I've always liked Doubletree Hotels because of the free cookies (and they are good cookies), but freebies aside, I was quite satisfied with my two-night stay in San Diego. The room was bigger than average and clean, the bed was a giant King with a pillowtop and 6 good pillows, and the bathroom (also clean) had the nice advantage of two sinks - one inside (a pedestal, no less) with the toilet and shower, and one outside. The decor was fairly contemporary (no hideous prints) and the art on the wall was actually okay. The whole look is more IKEA than Sears, for the most part.
The downsides, which didn't bother me particularly, but need to be noted: the rooms are set up condo-style with 4 or so units to one building, and when the room next to ours had the shower on, we could hear the water rushing through the pipes pretty loudly. The small balcony overlooking a lawn was nice, but hadn't been swept in a while and had not a single chair. The sliding screen door was off its hinges. Also, a few bugs seemed to be able to find their way into the room, which I chalked up to the hotel being on a golf course and the fact that it was unbelievably hot the weekend we were there. Not a problem for me, but if you're not a bug person...
So that was our stay. Mostly pretty good. Friendly staff, no problems checking in or out. For the price, I think it's a pretty good deal. And --, those cookies were good.
note: We didn't eat at any of the restaurants on site, but there is a Starbucks just down the street in the Albertsons supermarket to get your morning coffee.

"Excellent value for the price"
We came to San Diego for a wedding and stayed at the Doubletree Golf for 5 nights over the new year period. We are a family of 7 and took two double rooms to keep the cost down. The rooms were spacious, with two large double beds and a sitting area. It is close to the 15 freeway and most rooms overlook the golf course. There are two huge swimming pools and membership of the excellent fitness centre is free to Hilton Gold members. It is advisable to ask for rooms close to the reception, otherwise it can be a long walk to breakfast, which is served in the Golf Club building. Breakfast was a buffet, and was somewhat chaotic on the days the hotel was busy. Strangely on New year's day, it was empty! I have to say we have never seen so many overweight people piling their plates high with all manner of high-cholesterol foodstuffs, sometimes smothered with maple syrup which was literally running off the sides of their plates!!! Overall, we thought the hotel was great value, although the heavy traffic in the area can mean quite a long journey time to attractions such as Sea World and downtown San Diego.

"Very nice place"
We just returned from an overnight stay at the Doubletree Golf Resort in Rancho Bernardo. This reasonably priced property is about a 30 minute drive from San Diego and about a 15 minute drive from the San Diego Wild Animal Park. There are wineries in the area and a golf course on the property. The location is right off the freeway with many restaurants nearby. We stayed in room 415 which was a clean and lovely room overlooking the golf course. Our room had a king size bed, two comfortable chairs, a desk and a chair, and a roomy bathroom. Most rooms are in 3-story buildings scattered throughout the property. Many have a "peek of the golf course" view. Some have no view at all. If you are looking for a peaceful experience with a private patio, I would ask for a room in either building 10 or 11. The front desk staff was friendly and accomodating. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
