Midtown convenience and restored 1960s style...
Unveiled in 1961 in front of a crowd that included Judy Garland and Noël Coward, then called The Summit – Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel was the talk of the town for its ideal midtown location and mid-century modern look.
Designed by famed architect Morris Lapidus, the building’s curving façade coated in sea foam-colored brick was an extreme contrast to the somber hues and straight lines of the surrounding skyscrapers.
During the next two decades, the bright colors were traded in for muted tones and the name was changed to Loews New York Hotel. But one thing remained the same: The hotel’s popularity with people seeking a prime Manhattan location as a base for their city travels.
Today, the original mid century modernist glory of the hotel has been restored. |

Pre-honeymoon in NY
It was my dream to visit NY and when my boyfriend showed me the hotel -Doubletree Metropolitan Hotel- from internet, dreams really became true. I loved this luxurious hotel and its rooms, my god! What a lovely bed with very comfortable pillows! Our room was decorated modern and every tiny detail was clean and sleek. The Doubletree Metropolitan is close to Fifth Avenue with all shopping areas, be aware if you are a shopping monster like me! This experience was like a pre-honeymoon for us and highly recommended for all couples! |

Good deal, great location.
What a deal. I booked this room for $100/night in Manhattan. Easy access to the Metro. If I could get this rate again, I would definitely stay here again. |

"Great Hotel"
We spent three nights at the Doubletree Metropolitan in June 2006 and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a high quality hotel at a good price that is convenient to explore New York.
We arrived earlier than recommended check in time expecting to check into a Queen room and a twin room. As we were early they did not have the Queen room ready but upgraded us free of charge to an available King.
Every guest receives a Doubletree hot choc chip cookie, which was a wonderful touch.
The room was extremely clean and of a good size. The bed was one of the msot comfortable I have ever slept in. The bathroom was also spacious and clean with a a great selection of soap etc.
The hotel is located on Lexington Avenue right beside a Subway station. It is about four blocks from Grand central station and the Chrysler building. It has good local access to shops and café/restaurants. The area is not as busy as the rest of Midtwon but is close enough to the tourist sites.
We will stay again when we return to New York. We have stayed in other New York hotels of equal star rating but Doubletree Metropolitan out classes all of them.
(p.s. If you are looking for a great restaurant at great price in New york, we recommend the Ghandi Cafe Indian Restaurant on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village.)

The Doubletree Metropolitan was a great find!"
My husband, 10-year-old son and I stayed at the Doubletree Metropolitan over the 4th of July week. First of all we picked the place because of other fellow tripadvisor's recommendations. So a big thank you to all of you.
When we arrived on July 2nd we were greeted by a wonderful woman named "Venus". She was just charming and greeted us with warm chocolate chip cookies. The place had an art deco feel to it. Very simple decorations, but sharp.
There was a bar near the hotel check in desk. I just looked in. It looked like a nice place to have a drink. We never did since our son was with us.
When we got to the 18th floor---we were put in a junior suite. SWEET!!!! Now this is a bit pricey, but worth the money. We had our own balcony. A nice view of some high skyscrapers. The room was just beautiful---clean, art deco furniture, and one big huge king size bed. A pull-out sofa for another bed. Great thick towels in the bathroom.
Venus gave us vouchers for a breakfast---compliments of DoubleTree. Awesome breakfast buffet. I just kept eating.
But what we loved the most about the Metropolitan Doubletree is that it was walking distances to everything. Great restaurants, great shopping, Broadway, Trump tower. Everything was right there.
But of course---you were a cab ride away from everything too.
I can't say enough about this hotel. I loved it. We loved it. And Venus---she made the stay very pleasant. We will be back!
