"a good overall place to stay"
Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok is a good overall place to stay. Stayed a couple of nights here before heading to Phuket. Hotel upgraded to us to a suite--very cool room. Location very close to the skytrain and Chao River. Great pool/spa/ workout facility.

"it was a comfortable stay "
Dusit Thani Hotel Bangkok is one of the most conveniently placed hotel in the city. Just 20 minutes ride away from their new airport (about 250 baht on metered taxi), you can take the highway to get there and avoid all the traffic jams. You have to pay highway toll though, but that was only about 80 baht.
Rooms itself is comfortable and ample. I had myself a standard deluxe room, with great big bathroom, separate shower stall, all the amenities including toothbrush and shaver. Everything you need for a city hotel. The room size is also big and comfortable. Breakfast was also good - many choices and lovely seating. And it was also the only meal I took at the hotel since Bangkok offered so many dining options.
All in all, it was a comfortable stay and getaway from the bustling city.

"Location Location Location and Good!"
With so many good hotels in Bangkok my friend who lives here suggest the Dusit Thani hotel. I stayed here for 7 nights in a suite which was very nice. Arrival was by a hotel Mercedes Benz from the airport. I was greeted by no less then 5 people. Check in was on the third floor (Dusit Club lounge).
The room itself was very large with a separate sitting area. The bathroom was huge with a shower that could fit 5 adults no problem. I will agree with others some of the room looks a little outdated but not bad.
The service was excellent for the entire stay. I was greeted by name everywhere. You can't go anywhere in the hotel without staff standing by to as sit. They are not annoying just their if you need them.
The location simply in my mind can't be beat. It is at Sliom station where the sky train and underground are at. You walk out the hotel and rest of the city is in reach. No need to take a taxi anywhere. If you walk the area has many places to eat, bars, pubs, fast food you name it. The hotel itself has at least 7 places to eat at. I did not try them all just two of them.
The hotel gym is good with plenty of equipment to keep you in shape. If you want to walk about 5 blocks there is another gym(California Fitness) which is huge!
Overall I have zero complaints on this hotel. I enjoyed my suite for 7 days and the service. Location is to me a real key to choosing any hotel. This one has that hands down. On a side note I did check out the Grand Hyatt and Four Seasons. I did not like either location.

"Brilliant Location"
We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel before travelling on to Hua Hin. The location of the hotel is great, it is located in Downtown right near to Patpong Markets and cheap but lovely spas. The hotel is very large and in the 1960's was the tallest building in BKK. The staff were very helpful and polite and check in was smooth and hassle free. Our room was a deluxe room and I can make the assumption that it has been partly recently refurbished. Its a shame the whole room and bathroom hadn't been completely improved but the size of it was fine and it was clean. Breakfast buffet was included and was the usual buffet feast. The lobby area and restaurants were all smart and the views from the D'sens on the top floor were breathtaking. The GM was in there at the time and came over to say hello and was very nice and polite.

"Highly recommend the Dusit"
We just returned home from Thailand and our first 3 days were spent in Bangkok. And we loved it!!!
So many people give you mixed reviews on Bangkok - quite a few people dislike it - but as long as you are prepared for a bustling Asian city - it is fantastic.
The Dusit Thani was brilliant. We decided to stay at the Dusit after getting a book from the travel agent and then comparing the hotel reviews on Trip Advisor.
We upgrated to the Dusit Club, which was brilliant. Beautiful big and elegant room. Drinks before dinner in the Club. The staff were fantastic (everywhere). The foyer was lovely. Everything was really impressive. The only minor downfall is the hotels age. We didnt notice it so much in our room - it was perfect - more in the hotel corridors and elevators, which were a little old and scuffed. But nothing to really worry us at all.
Also, be prepared for the hard beds - not just at the Dusit, but right throughout Thailand!
We had drinks a couple of times at the bar in the main foyer (when the Dusit Club was closed), which was also beautiful. We had dinner on the first night at the Thai resturant which was superb. And considering we both had lobster and it didnt cost us more than $100 Australian Dollars, I would highly recommend the restaurant.
Location wise, the hotel is also perfect. Its very close to the sky train - absolutely no problems in getting around.
If we return to Bangkok (and we plan to next year), we would stay nowhere else. It was wonderful.
PS - I would have preferred to have given this hotel 4.5 out of 5 - only because we went to The Oriental one night for dinner, which is amazing. It was very much 5/6 star, but you had very big prices at The Oriental to match it!!!! Hence, the Dusit being a better option to stay at for 3 nights.
