Now a more peaceful place with the secluded Vatnsnes peninsula and brooding basalt cliffs at Hvitserkur exuding natural calm. Hot springs at Laugarbakki provide enough hot water to heat the community of Hvammstangi; the hot water is also used to heat greenhouses at Laugarbakki.
