Hotel Edda Skogar is a good-value base for exploring all of the local area’s remarkable natural beauty and the stunning Icelandic countryside.
Stunning south coast scenery rising from the remains of an ancient settlement stretching back more than 1000 years. Giant glaciers, black sand beaches contrasting the green beauty of Skogar.
While Skogar in South Iceland is home to one of Iceland’s best heritage museums, nearby attractions include the magnificent Skogafoss waterfall, Eyjafjallajokull glacier and Dyrholaey sea arch.
Just five km east of Skogar, visitors can walk up onto the Solheimajokull glacier, only a ten-minute walk from the road. A track leads across the coastal sands from Skogar down to the sea shore, and the town of Vik í Myrdal is a short distance east of Skogar.
About 15 km to the west is another spectacular waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, and another interesting waterfall is Gljufrabui. On the farm of Fit is Paradisarhellir (Paradise Cave), where outlaws are reputed to have taken refuge in the 16th century.
The Skogar Folk Museum is one of Iceland’s finest museums; its collection includes several reconstructions of old houses, as well as a museum of transport. The museum is a five-minute walk from the hotel.

* Horses are available for hire at Ytri-Skogar, and Fjallhestar at Holt offer a variety of horseback treks, for instance to Thorsmork in the uplands.
