Hotel Information
Feel the excellence of history along with modern comfort and hospitality...
Eilean Iarmain Hotel offers an atmosphere of true highland hospitality, situated 25 minutes from the Kyle of Lochalsh on the second largest of the Hebridean Islands, the hotel is a stylish country house with views over the Island or Ornsay and the lighthouse. The recently refurbished stable block provides four luxury suites, each individually designed. The restaurant also recently refurbished, offers a wide selection of local produce and local whisky, as well as an extensive wine list.
The hotel has four suites, recently created from the restored stables. Each has a double bedroom upstairs, and a cosy sitting room below with a sofa bed. The interiors are light and airy, with toile and check fabrics with painted and pine furniture. The view is across the water to the lighthouse of Isle Ornsay.
People have been coming here for over a hundred years, drawn by a love for the landscape of this Hebridean island, its geology, botany, ornithology, history, culture and language. Writers and historians, poets and artists come for inspiration and knowledge. Others come for the peace of the hills and sea.
The hotel forms part of Fearann Eilean Iarmain, a traditional Estate covering 23,000 acres belonging to Sir Iain Noble. It lies in the parishes of Sleat and Strath, an area of great natural beauty with hills and moorland, woodland and seashore. This habitat sustains abundant bird life and a wide variety of plant species and wild flowers. The area is known as "Lios an Elein" ("the Garden of Skye") and is famous for its geology.
Beside the hotel, on the little harbour, is the headquarters of "The Gaelic Whiskies", the only whisky company with its headquarters in the Hebrides. There you can taste their connoisseur brands and buy a bottle at your leisure.
* The Talla Dearg (The Red Hall), which is beside the hotel and is used for art exhibitions in the summer months, can cater for up to about 50 people seated for dinner. Over a hundred can be seated in Talla Dhuisdeil (an attractive converted church) which is about a quarter of a mile away and has excellent acoustics for public or musical events.
* There are two sitting rooms and two dining rooms, and so private dinners can be accommodated.
