"Simply the Best"
If you want old fashioned service and values, stay at the Elisabeth.
The food is wonderful, the service great and the rooms very good.
However, it's the overall feeling of the place that makes it so good.
We've been twice - both in the winter - and the price is well justified. My partner's not the most confident of skiers, but I'm quite happy to leave her for a day in the hotel with the pool, spa and health and beauty rooms.
A nice touch - as we were leaving, the staff had realised that we were starting an eight hour drive back. As the bill was settled, Madam was presented with a hand-made chocolate cake in a wooden presentation box - 'for the journey'.

"Skiing Austrian Style"
The Elizabeth Hotel in Mayhofen is the only 5* Hotel in town and in many ways is definitely the best hotel but it doesn't quite carry off the DeLuxe write up of a true Five star, this is despite the price tag which is seriously OTT.
This having been said we enjoyed a comfortable suite with a view of the mountain and cable cars which was very nice. The suite was very good but not excellent with only one WC for four occupants with two bedrooms, not such a problem but for an extractor fan that did not work. If we went again we would definitely get two deluxe rooms instead of a suite not least because it would be 75 Euros per night cheaper.
The pool, sauna and steam facilities were very satisfactory as was the general ambience and feel of the place (You can walk 3 minutes up the road to the Strass hotel and use their brand new Spa facilities which for 15 Euros a day are absolutely magnificant if you don't mind going naked which is a not optional). The staff were pleasant and unobtrusive. The food again was more akin to four star trying it's best to carry off a nuveau quisine image but not really impressive enough to match the charming efforts made by the restaurant staff to create a sense of panache. The Italien restaurant Mama Mia is very good and the food authentic, tastey and plentyful.
Beginning to get a little tired is the only way to honestly describe the overall feel of this hotel though definitely above average it was not worth the 638 Euros per night that we paid for four people including food (this was actaully much cheaper than brochure prices as we booked direct).
A cake on departure was a lovely Gesture. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and having wandered into most of the other well known hotels in Mayrhofen we felt Elizabeth was without doubt the best.
Obtaining a ski pass from reception was a very convenient advantage of this hotel at standard local prices. There is a very extensive ski shop next door which is the epitome of convenience for rental or purchase of ski equipoment as is the ski bus which stopped every 15 minutes directly outside the hotel. We had a memorable week.
