"Charming place"
We stayed at the Aqua Sol in mid September 2003. It is a lovely hotel, newly renovated clean rooms (small) with air con, TV & Fridge. We got put in a ground floor room originally with garden views but got moved to a higher room with fantastic views of Elounda Bay after a small complaint due to the Hotel also not being too full. Pool area was lovely, we found the tennis courts easily, don't know how the other person didn't. We were half board, plenty of choice for breakfasts, cooked food, cereals, greek yoghurts, fruit etc. Evening meals very nice, don't expect all English food though and I would say this isn't geared up for children either, a hotel for couples. The resort was about a 20-25 minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride away and was beautiful and picturesque with a small beach, not for people wanting a lively holiday, but a few bars and restaurants, lovely for relaxing.

"We had a brill time"
Hi I booked a last minute holiday with my 14 year old son for a week here. I didn't look at the reviews until I'd made the booking. Once I looked I was concerned that there were no up to date reviews. This I have discovered is because this is mainly a French holidaymakers resort. This was not explained when I booked and if I had been told this I probably would have avoided it. I am now glad I didn't know as we have had a great week. There were a few british folk there who were great but none with children, this was not a problem though as the animation crew were fantastic and included my son and myself in all the activities. The animation crew were for the most part french (some spoke english very well) and were employed by a french holiday company. The hotel had employed a girl from Polland (Magda) who spoke very good english and german she also had the basics of a few other languages. She joined the animation crew to include the non french speaking holidaymakers. She was excellent and was on the go 6 days a week from 10am til 12am. Not once did she look even a wee bit grumpy at all the hours she put in. We arrived on the Sunday morning and booking in was easy and the room although basic was clean, the aircon worked and it had a great view of the hills and the sea. The shower was powerful and there was plenty of hot water when needed. I was not disturbed by any noises from outside or other revelers. We went all inclusive and the food was not the greatest cuisine however we always found something to eat, the drinks though locally produced were fine, you could have bought named brands but I never felt the need to. The pool was clean and the only thing bad to say about it was it had salt water. Again no problem as when you got out you just had a shower to wash off the salt. There was even a hot water shower if you required it in the toilets. We never had any problem with people going down in the middle of the night to put out towels and there was always a sunlounger available. There is a beach although it has no sand to speak of and we only went down the once, there are the usual activities available there, scuba diving, snorkling, banana boat, pedalos and water skiing. The great thing about this holiday there were no problems with drunken louts, bad language or any of the usual problems sometimes encountered in other resorts. The Aqua Sol is about a 20min walk from Elounda or a 5 euro taxi ride. There are some shops and a few clubs there for those who are looking for that kind of holiday but for those not it is a great place to just sit back relax and enjoy the sun. We were both sad to leave and could easily have stayed an extra week. I hope this is of some help to others

"5 Star Service and Food at the Aqua Sol"
The Aqua Sol was perfect for us, as we wanted an all inclusive, quiet sunshine holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the busier resorts. The transfer is a long one even from Heraklion, and the roads arent for the faint hearted! Can take over two hours! But, it was well worth the drive. This is not a beach hotel by the way - it is next to a cluster of very exclusive hotels just to the South of Elounda village and suited us fine, but the private 'beach' is small and scruffy, half a K from the Hotel itself, but boy is the water clear and warm. The 'Bungalow' rooms nearly all manage a view over the sea and are actually two stories aand not bungalows at all, more like mini apartments. We didnt spend much time in the room, which was plain and functional, everything worked fine, especially the A.C.! The guests were mainly French who didnt respond to English conversation at first, but once I'd hashed up some schoolboy French with a lot of pointing we all got along fine. The food - ah the food..... What an excellent and tasty choice - so many great Greek dishes as well as French and international - I could go on about the food all day -but for gods sake dont wear shortsand tee shirt for dinner - you will be turfed out immediately - you do need to dress smart casual in the evenings and we advise you to pack some long trousers and a couple of smart shirts / tops as it's the same in the bars. Some of the guests were a bit snooty, but I learnt to ignore them. You can walk into Elounda, but it's a fair way and if you walk there on your first day, do slap the factor 50 on your neck, calves and extremities as you will seriously burn - even at 5 in the evening. Elounda is quite alright for bars and restaurants. I was glad we were All In as they were quite expensive - but looked great if you can afford it, especially the seafood ones. I can recommend the 4WD Safari into the interior - its a must if you dont mind being thrown around in the back of a landrover - if you want to go to Heraklion or Knossos, bus it or hire a car for the day - dont do the excursion as you will spend 4 or 5 hours of your day picking up and dropping off the others!! We would definitely go back - great staff - very helpful and the Manager was a Gent. Hope this review helps.
