Erzherzog Johann Hotel's building had been the largest inn within city limits since the 16th century. In the period of "Barock" of the 18th centrury, we had grown into a feudalistic "Palais" with wonderfully designed rooms and suites, party-halls and a catholic chapel. From these days of the 18th century you can still see the beautifully crafted blacksmith works for the railing in the inner part of the hotel.

Finally, in 1852 the building is being managed by Ferdinand Sonnhammer, who will gradually change the "Palais" into an upper-class hotel. He will be the one to give the hotel its final name: Hotel Erzherzog Johann, after the very well liked "Styrian Prince" Erzherzog Johann.

Very soon the "Erzherzog Johann" moved up to be the "Number One" hotel in town: Quarters and meeting place for generations of interesting personalities, mainly from Aristocracy and Arts.

Finally, Fritz M�ller, a great uncle of today�s owners, bought the hotel from Ferdinand Sonhammer�s widow. Now the hotel has been owned and managed by one family for more than 100 years.

LOCATION

Erzherzog Johann Hotel is located in the very centre of the old town of Graz, a few steps from the important monuments.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

* The "Wintergarden Restaurant", located in the Barock-style inner yard of the hotel is without a doubt the center-point of the house, and that, not just because of the location and sumptuous vegetation, but mainly due to the excellent cuisine served: Up-to-date, nicely locally rooted but also showing a lot of influence by the southern neighbor Italy.

* Welcome to the traditional Vienna Coffeehouse with homemade cakes and pastries, newspapers of the world and a glass of refreshing water complimenting your coffee. This is one of the "hottest" spots to meet and have a good time in the center of the city. You can also find the famous "Ernst Fuchs Bar" here, which was designed after drafts and paintings by Austrian painter Ernst Fuchs. It is the "home" of one of the city�s favorite bar-keepers, Manfred Goger. Now you know why evenings and nights in the Erzherzog Johann tend to stretch out a little longer, even after a very hard day.

* The hotel also has a sauna and sun terrace.
