"Wonderful hotel location"
The holiday inn express place d'italie is a wonderful hotel! I've stayed there 3 times and it's the only place I'll stay when I go back to Paris in a few months. You can generally get a great price on the Holiday inn website - I've paid between $75 and $85 a night every time.
They have a great cold breakfast buffet that is INCLUDED in the price!
There are hard boiled eggs, several types of cheeses, yogurt, ham, cereals, milk, toast, pastries, juices, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
The staff is friendly, although they don't all speak fluent English, but they do ok if you speak slowly. The location is not in the middle of the tourist area, but to us this was a big plus! It's about a 30 second walk to the metro stop from the hotel's front door. The metro stop (place d'italie) has 3 separate lines so it's very easy to get to where you want to go with less transfers. It's maybe a 10 minute ride to Notre Dame and 15 minutes to the Eiffel Tower. If you have kids and need a fast food break, there's a Mcdonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken across the street. There's also a grocery store and really nice shopping mall about 2 -3 blocks away. The rooms are not large but I didn't think they were that tiny either - you can't expect a room size like you'd get in the U.S. unless you want to pay $300 or $400 a night.
The rooms are also very clean! The bathrooms were modern and average sized to fairly spacious. The other big plus is the fact that they actually have designated non smoking rooms (something that's hard to find in Paris). That's the original reason why we first chose this hotel. I've stayed here 3 times and have no desire to even check out another hotel in Paris since I'd probably pay more and it wouldn't be any better! |

"Good value in a great location"
We stayed here for five nights recently at the rate of €105 per night. This was really good value, the hotel is in an excellent location. The room was small but we had no complaints, the only downside is the beds aren't too comfortable (sunken mattresses and poor bedding). The buffet breakfast was more than adequate. After a day's sightseeing on the first day, we were too exhausted to go far for dinner - and discovered that there are several really good restaurants in the Butte aux Cailles area a short walk away. We ended up eating locally nearly every night. You're also only a walk away from the Latin Quarter and the metro is just across the street. Good value for the price, but I really wish the beds had been more comfortable! |

"Brilliant location"
Just came back recently from Paris and used the holiday inn as our base. I have to say everything to do with the hotel was first class, staff friendly and helpful, buffet breakfast excellent and really set you up for a days sightseeing in Paris sufficient restaraunts nearby. But be aware avoid the KFC Outlet opposite the hotel unless you like wildlife we arrived fairly late on the first night of our trip and used the aforesaid as my wife was collecting our food I became aware of a family of mice scurrying about the floor this did not appear to bother the locals in the least but I can assure you that trying to eat a chicken meal whilst watching out for mice running all over the floor and jumping in and out of the seating is not pleasant this put us off of our meal altogether and we left wondering how on earth this outlet could possibly have obtained a food licence. We would certainly go back to this hotel. |

Good base for exploring Paris"
Location is very good - right next to Metro station with 3 lines so you can easily get around and explore Paris.
Room was basic and comfortable (on 5th floor).
Good continental breakfast every morning. Didn't find any other restaurants we liked in the neighbourhood and ate lunch/dinner in other areas instead.

"Great value, Great area!"
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Place D'Italie after much research. There are so many hotels to choose from in Paris, its overwhelming. The Holiday Inn Place D'Italie is in a great location. From CDG, we only had to make one connection. The Place D'Italie metro station is very convenient to the Hotel. It was right accross the street. The area is nice and clean. Rue des Gobelins on its right runs straight to the Latin Quarter and then on to Notre Dame and the Rue St. Germain. There are plenty of cafes on this street. Going south, you walk right to China Town. Lots of great places to eat here as well. The mall accross the street has a grocery store, restaurants, and great shopping. There's a Zara store here. The Holiday Inn room was small, but clean. Had a satellite TV, AC, but no mini-bar. There's an ice machine below. No room-service, that I could see. But it was OK. The value for this hotel was great. Below 100 eur. The buffet breakfast was nice, and the staff mostly helpful. Sally was very nice. I would definately stay here again. It has a nice neighborhood feel, not a touristy area at all, but very easy to get to anywhere you want to visit. |

"Great Location - Price Reasonable - Average Hotel"
Room is average. Stayed there in October 2004. It does have air conditioning. It was quiet. Bathroom is a good size. Price was under $100 if you book it through Holiday Inn website. New carpeting on the six floor. Not much service but the front desk does speak English and room was clean
Key to this hotel is location. The metro is right outside the hotel less than 5 minutes walk. You can reach any tourist spot with the metro. There's a shopping centre less than 10 minutes away. The taxi stand is right outside. There's a Hertz car rental across the street so that's a plus.
I would stay there again if I return to Paris. |

"Good, clean, friendly"
Room:
Got this hotel for €83 per night for a Friday and Saturday night. We stayed in a room on the 7th floor - non smoking floor. Room was decorated in a modern style and was very clean...sure a bit on the small side, but all you really do is sleep and wash up there, so I have no complaints about that.
Breakfast:
Breakfast was fine - good selection of croissants, cereals, juices, teas, etc.
Staff:
Staff were very friendly, and spoke English.
Location:
Place d'Italie probably wouldn't be described as the best location in that there isn't an awful lot to see do there. However, the hotel is literally 30 seconds from a Metro station - you can get absolutely anywhere in Paris on the Metro in a short space of time on the Metro - very efficient, safe, and cheap way to explore all of sites that Paris has to offer. Foodwise, there's a KFC & McDonalds straight acoss the street from the hotel, which are both fine to eat in (although some other reviews on this site think otherwise).
Overall:
Good, clean, friendly, safe, value-for-money hotel close to Metro station. |

"Eat at nearby brasseries!"
Stayed 2 nights; very good value: special offer at 78 Euros a night for double room with complimentary breakfast. Location excellent; previous reviewer obviously did not spot the Metro station 50 yards from entrance to hotel. 3 lines, one of which leads directly to Gare du Nord and Eurostar; others to main tourist spots. Hotel bedroom modern even if smallish. Had kettle and tea/coffee (not always available in french hotels). Staff very helpful and efficient. Breakfast plentiful, good variety.
We don't eat at Mcdonalds in France (or England!) but found 2 good little restaurants on nearby Rue des Gobelins. |

"Good Hotel next to Metro station"
We stayed at this hotel from August 28th to 31st. We had two rooms, both on the 7th floor. The room was large enough, with good size bathroom. And as all Holyday Inn hotel's we had experienced in Europe and Asia, the room's was very clean.
The breakfast was better then other Express by Holidy Inn hotels as this one also had fresh bread, boiled egg's and ham, not only a selection of creals.
The staff was service minded and friendly, and the the two ladies responsible for the breakfast room did impress us. Tables was cleaned once they was vacated and everything was instantly refilled.
And with less than 50 metres to the metro, getting around was very easy.
My only complaint is, the pillow was way to flat. If retunrning to Paris, we will for sure stay at this hotel. |

"Great hotal in brillant location!"
My friens and I stayed at this hotel for 6th - 10th September 2005. We had a twin room on the 6th floor (which is a non-smoking floor), we paid 78 Euros for the both of us per night. This price also included a full breakfast for pasteris, bread, fruit, yoghurt, tea, coffee and juices! The breakfast area does get busy after about 9am, but it is open from 6.30am to 10.30am.
The room was on the small side, but as your only sleeping there it has everything you need. There was air conditioning, tea and coffee maker, full bathroom and shower witha hairdryer, a t.v with movies and we had a window that overlooked a small garden area.
The beds very lovely as were the pillows so no need to bring your own bedding. The sheets were changed everyday, the room was tidied and the towels and supplies were done daily.
The whole hotal was very clean and the staff were only too happy to help you. There are safety deposit boxes, a luggage room, ice maching, vending machine and a bar all by the reception/breakfast area.
The staff are also happy to change any large Euro notes into smaller more managerable notes.
Place d'italie has a central round-a-bout, from here there are streets in every direction full of shops, banks, cafe's and resturants.I highly recommend this hotel and area to everyone! |
