Hotel Information
Consistently rates one of the finest hotels in the world...

Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten has been welcoming guests to Hamburg since 1897. The grand mahogany and marble lobby and the oak paneled lounge create an atmosphere much like that of a palatial estate, while the restful Wohnhalle Lounge provides a quiet retreat in the heart of the city.

The philosophy of the Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is determined by its
inimitable ambience which has evolved over more than hundred years, deliberately avoiding uniformity and monotonous functionality.

LOCATION

Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is situated near Alster Lake, Hamburg's shopping passages, the State Opera House and Congress Centre are all within walking distance.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Doc Cheng’s:
Located in the basement of the hotel, this restaurant serves European-Asian fusion cuisine in a mélange of Far Eastern and Western 1920s-style decor. Oriental wood carving, black and white photographs, chandeliers, and antique furniture with red and gold patterned fabrics create an intimate atmosphere. Prepared in a showroom kitchen, the lunch and dinner dishes are based on traditional Asian recipes, enriched with fresh European and Asian ingredients. The menu includes sushi, sashimi, and tuna tartar and a choice of 20 international beers and extensive wines.

* Bar Indochine:
Part of the Doc Cheng’s restaurant, the decor recalls Shanghai from the 1920s with black and white photographs, wood wainscoting, and comfortable wicker chairs. The bar serves 36 international beers, including beer from China, Japan, and Singapore, as well as exotic cocktails, spiced up with ginger, curry, and lemongrass. The popular Doc Cheng’s Lemon consists of lime, contreau, and passion fruit juice, while the bar’s Singapore Sling is reputed to be the best in Hamburg. A wide selection of cigars and cigarillos can be ordered.

* Jahreszeiten Bar:
This small two-story bar is decorated with dark-wood wainscoting and has seating made from red Rolls-Royce leather, as well as antelope leather tapestry, and a 16th-century wooden church door. International drinks and cocktails are served throughout the day and the evening for hotel guests, locals, and celebrities. Bar snacks include the hotel’s own brand of caviar.

* Wohnhalle Lounge:
Centered around the original fireplace, this living room lounge features wood wainscoting, marble floor, oil paintings, stucco on the ceiling, lavish red drapes, and antique armchairs and sofas. The menu includes light snacks, coffee, and cake specialties and the popular British High Tea, with an international selection of teas served by a tea master together with scones or finger sandwiches. Open throughout the day and the evening, the lounge arranges live piano music in the afternoon.

* Built in 2000, the hotel’s exclusive wellness and health center, Amrita Spa, provides a panoramic view over the roofs of Hamburg. In harmony with Far Eastern body, mind and soul philosophy, the Spa has five treatment rooms in a minimalist decor, with warm earthy colors, paneling with tropical woods and filigree mosaics. Euro-Asian treatment programs include aromatherapy, hydro massage, thalassic and ayurveda treatments, as well as the popular couple massage. Wellness facilities include sauna, steam bath, solarium, restroom, and fitness center with natural daylight. Amrita Spa offers its own cosmetic series with products based on organic ingredients and offers personal adviser for diet and fitness issues.

* The hotel’s business facilities include five splendid conference and meeting rooms, salons, and a ballroom for up to 500 people. Carefully restored antique furniture, stucco and chandeliers complement the rare Flemish gobelin-tapestries from the 16th and 17th centuries. The historic look is combined with modern technological equipment. The self-service business center provides computer, printer, fax machine, telephone, and Internet access. Wireless Internet access is available in all public areas for hotel guests.

ROOM AMENITIES

* This hotel has 156 guestrooms, all uniquely shaped and with individual antique furniture from as early as 1897. Fresh flower arrangements and oil paintings complement traditional turn-of-the-century design in warm red or blue and cream colors. Rooms have armchairs and large desks with gold lamps and dial-up and wireless Internet access as well as a television with 35 channels. Lavish drapes cover large soundproofed windows looking onto the inner courtyards.

"Best hotel I've stayed at."
This is the best hotel I've stayed in. The room was great, with the best bathroom I've ever had, staff couldn't do enough for you. It was just great. I've never stayed at a top class hotel before, so it's difficult for me to compare. If you can get a good rate, we got from one from Expedia, I would recommend treating yourself here. The location is right next to the Alster lake with metros close by, so it makes sight-seeing and shopping easy. It's difficult not to recommend a place as good or as convenient as this.

"5 star service"
i stayed here for 1 night ( sat 24 feb 2007). Straight away i was impressed by the entrance, grand lobby and refreshing warm welcome. check in was easy, hassle free and we were escorted to the room in an old fashioned but cute lift. The room overlooked a quiet courtyard - fine. it awas large, it had a very large and amazing bathroom. i liked the bathroom more than the room because the style of the room, and this goes for most of them is really old, old world. think dorchester and the savoy in london but a far more ancient look. the furniture is antique hence aged wood, scratch marks and very dated. The rooms are very clean. not very modern. but adequate. horrid curtains. I found the spa was superb - london prices. the jahreszeitan grill amazing - a faultless and delicious lunch there. the service exceeding way beyond 5 star. My only real disappointment was the room. It made me feel old and i also think that this hotel suits the 50+ age group as that pretty much made up all the guests staying there. The style of the hotel would suit the very mature traveller. Unbeatable location, a michelen starred restaurant - haerlin. The hotel has a great deal going for it but the style was not for me.

"Best Hotel in Germany"
My wife, 5-yr old daughter, and I just concluded our second stay at this world class property during a three week trip around Germany. Our first room, booked through Expedia for the low rate of $260, was a medium sized room (big enough to accommodate a rollaway bed) facing the courtyard. The second room, a suite overlooking the lake booked at the hotel for significantly more, is truly wonderful, but both rooms were exceptional. From minute one you know you are in a great hotel. The building, situated on the lake, is exceedingly stately and reflects the true grandeur of an old school European luxury hotel. The lobby is beautiful, (think real antqiues, class, Cuban cigars) and the lounge, though definitely formal and filled with wealth (a lot of it local) is nonetheless inviting. The service from top to bottom is exceptional, as befits a property of this caliber. I have no doubt that the Vier Jahrezeiten would easily score 5 stars from Mobil and AAA. The rooms, while lacking some modern upgrades like flat screen TVs, are luxurious without being over the top. One feels cocooned (there are 2 entrance doors), yet the buttons to call staff are right there. Bathrooms are large with white marble and separate bath/shower. Amazing rain shower head. Deep tubs. I did notice some small rooms, but they will all be comfortable, quiet, etc. Best part of the hotel, however, is the the great feel that one only gets in a truly authentic and exceptional property; the feel of being at home while simultaneously being someplace unique. We traveled all over Germany and stayed at some fine hotels, but I would be shocked if there was better hotel anywhere in the country. I have not stayed at the Georges V, but I have little doubt this is one of the top 5 city hotels in Europe. For my money, it compares favorably to, say, the Peninsula in NY or Chicago, the Ritz in SF, etc. People who like the Plaza Athenee in NY for instance will love this hotel. Even people who like cutting edge properties should stay here. The is one instance where "old school" is the only school. The only hotel I have stayed at that I can compare it to is the Lanesborough in London... Toss up. Anyone who understands what a true luxury hotel should be will be quite happy. Hamburg is also a great city; cheap and empty flights on Emirates from JFK. And avoid the Grand Hyatt in Berlin. I will post a review of that hotel next.

"My favourite"
I have stayed in this hotel many times since switching from the Park Hyatt (also a great hotel) - this is a fantastic hotel. Has a unique charm; sophisticated yet a starting to get a little dingy around the edges. From all my travels across Europe this is definitely one of the best hotels to stay - excellent service.

"Fantastic Hotel"
Just returned from 2 nights at this hotel - lives up to its 5 star reputation. Booked a bed and breakfast prepaid rate through a web site I have used a few times (abahotels) which I have found very good for Germany. Despite the (relatively) cheap rate considering the quality of the hotel, was upgraded to a junior suite on arrival on a fully refurbished floor (2nd) - beautiful room with the only thing missing being a view of the Alster lake (but then I didn't pay for that either!!). Staff are very high quality without being over the top - they even manage to learn your name after just a couple of nights which can't be said about all 5 star hotels who seem to be selective depending on how wealthy you are/appear to be! If you can afford it, have the afternoon tea in the lounge - beautiful setting and, if you make the time, it can easily take several hour of people watching. Breakfast very good - hot dishes cooked on request rather then being kept warm as part of the buffet. Didn't eat here in the evening but there is a good (lively) Bavarian restaurant just behind the hotel (Franziskaner) if you like that sort of food. Would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. PS Free wireless internet access throughout the hotel (well certainly in the public areas and on the refurbished (lower) floors.

"Quiet, but in the middle of the city"
Fantastic hotel which I highly recommend. It's within walking distance of many upscale shops along with numerous restaurants and case options. There are a number of dining options in the hotel as well. The Deli was reasonably priced and the Grill was more expensive, but worth it. Service across the board was prompt. There's a business center where you can check your email for free, and the connection isn't too bad either. The rooms are a nice size, larger than what I typically would expect for a European hotel. Nice touches in the rooms included buttons to ring for a butler or a maid, towel warmer and in room safe. The spa was pricey, but fantastic. There's also a small gym area within the spa which has some free weights, nautilus weights and cardio machines. If you like living well, this is a great hotel to choose. Can't beat the location, right across the street from the lake!

"Very grand hotel in central opulent district"
We stayed 2 nights Thursday 1 December and Friday 2 December 2005. This was a special anniversary stay. It is a plush hotel situated in a grand old building (high ceilings, wide corridors and staircases) overlooking the smaller of the two lakes. It is at right angles to Jungfernstieg street - one of Hamburg luxury shopping streets. It is an hotel where every service can be provided and the customer need do nothing. So there are no ironing boards, no in-room kettles, and boots can be left outside the room for polishing. Our room [the cheapest on Expedia at EUR 205] was nonetheless large with 2 very comfortable beds and lightweight but warm duvets. The white tiled bathroom was equally large, with bath and separate shower cabinet. There was even a small walk in clothes cupboard room. Toiletries were plentiful [though as all containers were the same colour it was not easy to tell what each held]. The shower cabinet had doors which opened out, so flooded the floor when opened. The room had elaborate lighting switches inc several master switches so all lights could be extinguished together from several points in the room. The heating system worked fine but the air-conditioning had failed; so we let in the winter air by opening the window [the maintenance man had seemingly not understood what we said was wrong]. Breakfast cost EUR 24 each. partly buffet style with good fruits, cheeses, fish and cold meats. Juices and coffee were served in person. On the first morning we thought service was rather disorganised as the staff appeared to have very compartmentalised jobs and no one came out of the kitchen to clear away mounting piles of dirty crockery. The hotel has only one PC in a business centre (though rooms have Internet connections) and no swimming pool (though the top floor has an elaborate and expensive spa). The hotel was able for me to go to Park Hyatt 10 minutes walk away where a day pass to pool and elaborate leisure facilities costs EUR 30. Overall, this was a pampering stay but it comes at a price [about EUR 250 per night including breakfast for 2] and you could easily pay very much more.
