"Great hotel!"
Booked a large studio double double room for our family of four (2 teenagers). The room is 550 sq ft, so we did not encounter the space issue that the previous poster mentioned. Space was not an issue at all. In the contrary, the room is huge, but nicely furnished. Two TVs, two double beds, and a large sitting room area with a couch.
Service is very nice. Did not encounter the tipping problem the previous poster mentioned. Tipped the doorman for valet, but we got our own bags, and didn't tip anyone else.
Made dinner reservations ahead of time through the concierge by email. No problems. Everything is set. First night we had dinner at the hotel's main dining room Le Champlain. What a wonderful experience! Attentive service but not intrusive. Excellent food. What a find!
I will definitely return, and will recommend this hotel to anyone.
Fairmont's website actually lists the actual size of each room type, so we knew what size room we were going to get. This is a very ncie feature compared to most other hotel company websites.

"Wonderful stay, Gold Room (Concierge Level)
This is my second time staying at this hotel. It is in a wonderful location and is a wonderful hotel. This time I paid extra for two rooms on the top floors, the Gold level (what they call their concierge level). This was done to treat the party in the second room to a delightful vacation. It was all very nice, but not really worth the extra cash, at this particular hotel. Check-in for this level was on floor 14, but otherwise no different than doing it downstairs. At all other hotels I've stayed at, on the concierge level, they sit you down, offer you a drink, and process you in.
Also, in all other similar hotel concierge levels that I have visited, drinks in the lounge were included, here they are not.. For the hefty extra cash you get a higher altitiude check-in, and nice snacks at 5 PM and nice breakfast in the morning, a higher floor, and free internet. The two food events, while nice, come nowhere close to the extra amount spent. I would have asked for a lower room afer the first night if I was not treating the others.
I must say that I was surprised when I called for my car to be brought around, 15 mins ahead as requested, and still, 25 mins later, the car was not ready - and there did not seem to be much going on in the car area at the time. Also, upon initial arrival, no one came up to car to assist at first. We had unloaded completely before anyone approached us. Surprising for this level of hotel. This did not affect our stay, it was just odd.
I would stay at this hotel again, just not at the top level - felt like it was kind-of a waste.

"Quebec City's Classic Hotel"
Even if the Chateau Frontenac were NOT great you would STILL have to stay here since it is the quintessential hotel in Quebec. Fortunately it IS a great hotel and Fairmont is doing a great job in running it.
The rooms and public spaces have under gone upgrades since I last stayed here when I think it was CP hotel. It was great when I was here in the mid 90's, but even better this last stay.
If you haven't picked up a theme in my other posts, let me emphasize it here. Location, location, location. Not only is it a great hotel with incredible dining, it is also the absolute best location in town. The views are spectacular and you can walk anyplace worth seeing in Quebec from here. In the winter I never have to leave the hotel for appointments as everyone I do business with is only to happy to meet me at the hotel and conduct business over a great meal.
If I had to pick one hotel in all of Canada to stay at, it would be a hard call between this and the Empress, but I think Chateau Frontenac wins by a nose because Quebec has so much more to do than Victoria.

A First Class Hotel
My husband and I and our 3 year old daughter stayed 7 nights. I had request an room on the Gold floor with a view of Old Quebec. When we got there, to our delight they upgrade us to a larger room on the Gold floor facing the St. Lawrence River, because they thought it would be more comfortable for us because we had a little one, for no extra charge. The room was beautiful, and the staff was the BEST. The Gold Lounge where breakfast and afternooon snacks were serve was wonderful. The staff at the Gold Lounge make us feel like royalty. After the first day the staff here remember my little gils name, and treated her so well that she did not want to leave the Chateau Frontenac. The pool was wonderful for little ones because they had a toddler pool. |

Perfect in everyway
My husband I just returned from our honeymoon in QC. We stayed here at the Chateau Frontenac and can not wait to return. We were upgraded to the top level of the hotel with a jacuzzi tub that overlooked the city. It was amazing and romantic.
