"Good starting point for trips to central/southern Spain"
We were a little apprehensive with staying here after reading other posts, but had no problems at all - staying two nights over Christmas 2005.
The location was very good, across the road opposite the railway and metro stations and easy access via metro to the airport. The railway station complex has movie theatres, food court with lots of choices, reasonably priced and cash machines and a good 24-hour convenience type store with plenty of snacks, bread, alcohol etc.
It cost a small amount to get a key for the safety deposit box at the hotel that's charged on a 24 hour basis - so if you're staying more than one day it makes sense to hang onto your valuables overnight and start the use the box when you're going out for the day.
Our room overlooked the square/traffic circle and up towards the Royal Palace, a neat view by day or by night. The room was warm and the bathroom small. The breakfast was pretty basic but adequate, be prepared for lots of other travelers as this hotel seems to be a starting spot for a number of tours. There is also an on-site cafe but we went across the road to the food court or convenience store to get food and drinks.

"Great location, great staff"
I was three time in this hotel with diffferent groups of tourist. It's true that the hotel is needing a remodelation, but I agree that the location is the best, the staff is always very helpful and friendly, really professionals, the lobby very nice and big . The room was very clean. Buffet Breakfast is served in restaurant in the cellar, but it's clean and light, it contains eggs, bacon, croissants, several tips of bread, cereals, coffee, tea, milk, juices, etc. Metro is across the street.
It's a cheap option of accommodation in Madrid with a great service

Florida Norte Hotel - Madrid
I would say a 3* hotel overall. Location is very good outside a main metro station and a shopping centre opposite. Would not advise walking because local maps do not actually reflect local area, though metro makes it easy. Down side - hotel smells of smoke but I think most places did because everyone seems to smoke in Madrid. Breakfast OK and good maid service. |
