"Had a great time!!"
Just got back from a week at the Fontan. After reading the reviews on this site I was a bit leery. Was I ever pleasantly surprised! The hotel is beginning to show it's age but while I was there they were doing a lot of painting and the elevators are being replaced.The grounds are clean and well kept. My room was very large, in the "A" building overlooking the ocean.It was clean and comfortable-all I really needed. The food was consistantly good -the buffets changed every night and also included some traditional Mexican dishes. We also had a very nice meal at La Hacienda, the a la carte restaurant. There is also a beach side palapa where you can go for breakfast and lunch and order from a menu. There are some very good places to eat in Ixtapa if you get tired of the resort. The staff were pleasant and appreciate if you attempt to speak a little spanish. They were also very accomodating in moving a friend who wanted a room with a better view. The weekends are very busy with Mexican nationals-lots of kids running around the pool. There are many places on the beach you can go to get away from all the people. The shows in the evening were well done but they are staged in the main restaurant so it can get noisy if you want to eat late. The beach is beautiful ! There is a strong undertow so I wouldn't recommend it for families with small kids. This is not a four star resort but I feel that it is good value for the money. Would I go back? Absolutely!

Hola, My name is Lucie Sauriol and my boyfriend's name is Luc Ivall. This is our 7th time in Ixtapa staying at the Fontan Hotel. Some people criticize about the Mexicans staying at the Fontan over the week-end, let me tell you something when you are on Holidays whatever matters is to be in a safe place, having good and honest people around you. We have brought alot of people over the years, this year, however was special because my parents-in-law were 70 year old and it was their 3rd time at the Fontan. Congratulations To Denisse who got married and was so pleasant with us, always smiling. If you are looking for luxury, no kids around then go to a 5* in Jamaica or may be on a secluded island; but if you are like us, wanting to learn about the people, making friends, then for sure you will choose the Fontan. Of course there are Mexican families during the week-end SO WHAT !! we are in Mexico. And the saying goes in Rome do as the Romans do .... We always book through Tours Mont-Royal (our representative in Ixtapa is Isabelle Boies who speaks three languages) She is the best and I know I have been travelling for over 25 years now. I have been to Barbados, Jamaica, The Bahamas, Florida, Acapulco, Huatulco, Puerto Vallarata, Venezuela and my heart goes back always to Ixtapa (so does my husband). At the hotel it is like a big family. Everyone smiles, helps you out with your Spanish or try very much to speak French or English. This year we were there from January 25th 2007 until February 8th 2007. It is always painful to leave as we make friends at the hotel. SPECIAL THANKS TO: Senor Alberto Gonzalez Juarez (General Manager) Who was full of compassion for us because duringour stay as my daughter had come with one of her friend and during that week her mother passed away. He helped calling a doctor and she received the best care. THANK YOU ALSO TO SENOR LIC. SAUL PENA MARTINEZ (Room division manager) who took good care of us during our stay. There are alot of hotels in Ixtapa but if you want to know the reason I choose the Fontan is because the people our respectful and so our we. We are back and are planning already our new trip for next January 2008.
