The Conscious Kitchen is hotel's culinary philosophy. Because the food is taken from the landscape around hotel and cooperated with
the local farmers to ensure a steady supply of the finest raw materials that
process at the hotel. Chief smokes the meat in hotel's own smokehouse
and hang it in the "stabbur" ( storehouse ) to cure. The result is Fretheim's
homemade cured meat and also make salted lamb ribs, leg of lamb and Fretheim Sausage among other things. When the season is right chief uses organically grown vegetables. The hotel offers only the genuine and natural.
Allow yourself to be tempted by our richly assorted and exclusive buffet or
รก la carte menu in the large, well-lit restaurant. The kitchen has won critical
acclaim, and offers local and traditional specialities as well as more exotic dishes.
The hotel can as mentioned provide meals made from organically cultivated ingredients. This is an important part of " The Conscious Kitchen".
The conference department is situated in the historical part of the hotel. The
conference facilities featuring light and inviting rooms. Good ventilation and
technical equipment ensure successful meetings under the best conditions.

Fretheim Hotel is an attractive building at the very head of the fjord.
The Flam Railway is one of the world's most stunning rail journeys, both for its impressive engineering and breathtaking scenery. The 20 kilometre trip between Flam and Myrdal offers panoramic views of Western Norway's most beautiful fjord and mountain landscape! There is no other standard-gauge, adhesion railway anywhere in the world that is steeper than the Flam Railway.
If you are lucky, you may also catch a glimpse of the naiad in the Kjosfossen waterfall; she is known for showing herself when most people are in the mountains, namely in the summer months.
The Flam valley has a lot to offer: Wild and beautiful mountain scenery with snow-covered peaks, lush fields and historical traditions all the way back to pagan times.
It can be admired in several different ways. Whether you take the railway right to the top, or only part of the way, it still makes a great combination with hiking and cycling.
The hotel's staffs will help you with bikerental if desired, provide guides and/or serving of traditional food along the way.

What a setting!
A pristine, modern hotel with the most fabulous views ever. The staff were wonderful, and couldn't do enough for you. We booked for dinner as we had heard that the buffet was good and it was amazing. Every type of fish and seafood from salmon to caviar. Wonderful organic steak and lamb. Better than any cruise ship! Rooms were very clean with wood floors but the room isn't important when you have such a wonderful setting.

Fantastic Hotel!
Stayed in this hotel for the second time and would go there again and again! The first time, in 2000, the hotel was pretty new and we had a side facing room which was also very nice. All rooms seem to be furnished and sized the same. This year, I had a Fjord facing room on the top floor with a wonderful sitting area underneath a dome style window. The light could come in from above, the front and the sides. It was very airy and light, you could read a book at midnight, it still was so bright at that time. The staff at the frontdesk was so friendly that they upgraded me to that sort or room although I had booked a single room which would have faced the back of the hotel. The view was spectacular, you could see the cruise ships and ferrys come in. The buffet style Dinner was excellent. The best I ever had in Scandinavia. Choices of salads, fish, meat, appetizers, main courses and heavenly desserts! Breakfast was as good as Dinner. Plenty of tea choices, even organic tea! The only negative I would state, is the fact that the key for your room operates difficult as you have to use it to lock your door from outside when you leave your room. They told you this at arrival, but you still have to find out how it works, otherwise your room is NOT locked!!!
At reception you can get a walking map which shows you plenty of different walks you can start right from the entrance of the hotel. If you take the walk along the Fjord, you will have a wonderful view, but the street on your right hand side. The Flamsbana is a must for every Tourist. But I personally prefer the train from Myrdal back to Oslo! This is fantastic, you will travel through fantastic Norwegian scenery, mountains and lakes, covered by snow, even in June!
I personally would stay in this hotel again and I definitely will do so soon! It was the best hotel during our trip!!!
