" beauty, location, amenities and room size"
You can't beat the Electra Palace for beauty, location, amenities and room size. This was my third trip to Athens and was never disappointed |

"This is an excellent hotel"
This is an excellent hotel, with very friendly staff. It is centrally located in the Plaka area, with the most amazing views of the Acropolis. |

"great hotel - great location - great staff- but very hard mattress"
We stayed 2 nights at the Electra Palace after a weeklong cruise. The location was perfect - just a 5 minute walk from Constitution Square and 1 minute to the heart of the shopping and dining in Plaka. We were on the 5th floor in one of the upgraded rooms (executive I think) which had a view of Acropolis from the balcony - lovely room, and great service. One negative was that someone was smoking on the balcony even though it was a non-smoking floor - other than that, no issues with the smoke.
Our favorite part of this hotel was it's fabulous rooftop pool with spectacular views - although get there early or you'll be stalking other guests to get a chair. They also have a rooftop patio on the other building (much higher up- I think it was the 8th floor) which looks like it's used for private events. We did not use the indoor pool in the basement but it looked nice too.
We were directed to the Event restaurant as another reviewer mentioned but we had a great time there - the wait staff were a lot of fun and the food was definitely our best meal in Athens- stick to the specials and you can't go wrong.
Lots of friends were telling us to stay at the Grand Bretangne and while it does look nice, I much prefer the location of the Electra Palace and the rooftop pool can't be beat - we would definitely stay here again, and that's even though the beds were incredibly uncomfortable (way too firm). It was that great of a place.
We ended up taking the Metro to the airport which is a much cheaper way to go - but you will need a ticket that gets you to the airport- the standard metro fare gets you to the end of the metro line, then you transfer to a local railway (same track so no walking to the transfer). But this was very convenient and far cheaper than the 50 Euro fare we heard others paid.

"excellent location"
I stayed 3 nights at the Electra Palace. Staff was helpful, rooms were clean, and the hotel is in an excellent location. I have to agree with another reviewer the mattresses are extremely hard but other than that the hotel was excellent for the money. If you are taking any type of tour, the tour busses cannot get down the road to the hotel. The tour operators come and get you and you must roll your luggage up three blocks which wasn't convenient given the amount of luggage we had.

"Plaka location"
We stayed here for 2 nights with a group of 8 people. The hotel and rooms are very elegant. Be sure to get room with view of Acropolis. It is just beautiful to see it out your window all lit up at night. Bathroom has modern fixtures including bidet. Panos, the concierge, was very helpful with dinner recommendations. Breakfast was incredible, both hot and cold buffet. Pool on top floor is small but the view to the Acropolis can't be beat. The location is great for walking to historical sites, shopping and restaurants. Don't recommend a car here. Use the Metro or taxi to get around.

"Pleasant Sophistication in an Ancient Location (Plaka District)"
This modern, luxury hotel is located in the middle of the old city in the Plaka district. The upper floors have views of the Acropolis which is within walking distance of the hotel. There is a roof top pool and dining at night. The breakfast, either room service or in the lobby level restaurant, offers all you would want from a European or American perspective. The luncheon menu, offered in a pleasant setting, was excellent. The service level throughout was excellent, as well. Spiros, the concierge at the front desk, was most friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Michael at the lobby bar was friendly and helpful, as well.
Try the Event restaurant for dinner, recommended by Spiros, and a few blocks from the hotel offering a more eclectic menu including fresh fish. The owner, Nicolas, and his brother who run the restaurant are very nice and really know what they are doing.

"A gem - don't know what the fuss is about!"
I booked throught Expedia and found a bargain of a holiday! It was so cheap in comparisson to other European city destinations!
To get to the hotel from the Airport, take the Airport bus - it runs 24hrs a day, 7 days a week and is only 3.90 Euros (one way). It takes a while to get to the centre, but the journey gives you a glimpse of Athens city life. You get off at the bus's very last stop, Syntagma Square - walk back on your self, down the slight slope and then turn left (at the traffic lights). Walk down 2 blocks and the road that you want comes after 2 blocks on your right.
The hotel itself was great. The rooms were comfy and decent sized - they weren't massive. But then I didn't go to Athens to stay in my hotel room all day long and contemplate it's size! The hotel is situated in the Plaka district, which itself is a national heritage site. You are right at the foot of the Acropolis and all other attractions can be walked to. I'm in my early twenties and am extremely lazy yet still managed to walk to all places of Athens - didn't need to use public transport once!
The hotel staff are friendly - if you are friendly to them. I had no problem with their manners or otherwise. The answered all my touristy questions with great patience and pointed me in the right direction where they didn't know.
The hotel does have a gym and an open air pool - both which I didn't use. As I said before, I wanted to sleep in luxary at night - have a good variety for breakfast in the morning - and be rested to explore the city the day after. In my opinion, the hotel offered just that! Perhaps it wasn't the 5 star standard of say a Hilton - but it had all the amenities necessary for 5 star status.
