I wish we had stayed longer. The price was really good. The bathroom was very nice, beds were comfortable. My only complaint was that the coffee in the breakfast room was not very nice. |

"good stay"
I've stayed in Hotel Ercilla for 2 nights and this is the last night I'm here (yes, I'm writing the review IN the hotel room). In general the stay is quite pleasant, the room is very clean, sheets are changed every day, shower has great water pressure. The staff is friendly but not too personal. The location of the hotel is great, it's about a 10-min. walk to the Guggenheim, which is the main purpose of my trip. While you're there, remember to promenade down (or up) the river, it's a very nice stroll especially during sunset.
I tried the cafetaria, the food's ok but a bit over-priced. Restaurant food in Bilbao is generally on the pricey side, I've had better experience dining in a cafe. (Highly recommend "La Taberna de Los Mundos, on Luchana 1, delosmundos, the food is very "local" and unbelievably good)
The decor of the lobby and the entrance area hasn't been re-vamped and looks a bit old. But don't let it scare you because the rooms have been tastefully renovated recently and have a modern-classical feel.
As of internet, though it offers wireless services, you have to pay 15 euros/day to use the service even if you bring your own laptop.
There's now a new gym and jacuzzi on the top floor.
One thing I must note is that the sound proof isn't perfect in my room. I could hear my neighbors chatting and laughing as well as the actions on the hallway...

"very comfortable stay"
We stayed at this very central hotel for 6 nights. The room was very comfortable and very, very clean and quiet. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend it.

"Clean, Convenient and Classy!"
I stayed at the Hotel Ercilla during mid January 2004. The hotel is absolutely lovely with clean facilities, professional and courteous hotel staff, a magnificent breakfast buffet and a very convenient location in Central (Modern) Bilbao. Bilbao as a city is very compact, with most attractions such as Casco Viejo (Old Town), Guggenheim, Museo de Bella Artes, San Mames (Atletico Bilbao Football Stadium, affectionately known as"The Cathedral") and numerous bars, restaurants and department stores all within walking distance from Hotel Ercilla.
If you are flying into Bilbao's International Airport, the best way to get into the city is by the airport bus, A-3247 (the Bus stop is the first Bus stop, on your right hand side as you leave arrivals). The bus ride takes about 20 minutes to reach Plaza Moyua, and from there the Hotel Ercilla is a 3 minute walk.

"Very good hotel, convenient location"
I have just come back from Bilbao where I stayed at the Hotel Ercilla. It is in a very convenient location especially since the airport bus drops off at the Plaza Moyua which is the main artery.
The hotel itself was clean with a very good restaurant, Bermeo and a cafeteria which is actually another restaurant but less formal. The food is excellent with the buffet breakfast offering a wide variety of local food.
The Guggenheim Museum is well worth a visit. The interior of the building is as fascinating as the exterior. The old town is worth a visit with its narrowed cobbled streets and bars.
The hotel is convenient for the Indaxtxu metro station. I actually caught the metro to Areeta and saw the magnificent transporter bridge which is the oldest in the world. I went on Sunday and there just happened to be a market across the river. The transportation (gondala) to get to the market is a tourist attraction in itself.
For those interested in football, I went to see Bilbao play Valencia. Tickets were easy to buy though I believe it's harder to get tickets for Real Madrid or the local rival, Real Sociedad.
