"Great People, Great Place"
As other reviewers have stated there are two hotels with very similar names. This review is for U Zlate Studny at Karlova 3, 11000, Prague 1, Czech Republic in the Old Quarter.
Location: The Studny is about one block from the Charles Bridge and centrally located to all the tourist sites in Praha. We easily walked to the Praha Castle, Jewish Quarter, and National Museum with three children in tow. The hotel is also national historic site having been built in the 16th century.
Staff: Dagmar, Julie, and the rest of the U Zlate Studny staff are excellent hosts. I say hosts because you truly are their guests in this quaint hotel with only six rooms. They easily answered all our questions and arranged for a car pick-up for our arrival into Praha.
Room: We stayed in the suite deluxe which is, no kidding, a small apartment. There is a foyer, dining room (small table with three chairs), living room, bedroom, and bathroom. The room has a small fridge, phone, tv with satellite (for English channels) and best of all a view of Karlova Street.
Breakfast: Breakfast is included in the price of your room as is easily the best breakfast spread we have seen in our travels. There is the typical European breakfast spread, but you can also order eggs, bacon, sausage etc.
Restaurant: The hotel has a restaurant in the cellar which is just as quaint as the hotel. The food is excellent and prices are great as well. No crazy add-ons (ie music charge) like other Praha restaurants.
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Just make sure you choose the U Zlate Studny.

"Looking for hotel with character??"
Just spent the weekend in this lovely hotel. There are only 8 rooms and ours was more like a suite! Lots of antique furniture and only 5 mins walk from both the Charles Bridge and Old Town Square. Staff are very friendly and helpful and speak good English.

"Loved this little Prague treasure"
My dear husband (DH) and I stayed here for four days in April of 2003. We found this hotel in a guide book and were not disappointed. When travelling overseas, I'd rather stay in a historic hotel with local ambience than a run-of-the-mill chain hotel that could be anywhere.
I don't remember there being much noise, but at the time we were living over some shops in central Utrecht (The Netherlands), with a bell tower outside our window, so street noise was normal to us. What I really loved about the hotel was the great ambience. The hotel is a historic monument from the 16th century. Our "room" was really like a suite, with a longish hallway that led to a bedroom and on the other side of the bedroom was a living area with a sofa, big chair, coffee table, and TV. On the other side of this room was a round table and chairs near the windows that looked down onto the plaza below. The furniture was mostly antique and the wood-beamed ceiling had the original painted design still there.
Breakfast was a simple continental affair. The bathroom was in our suite, on our left off of the hallway leading to our bedroom. It was clean and modern and quite large.
The location can't be beat if you plan to see Prague by foot. Every morning after breakfast, we headed to the nearby Charles Bridge and then out and about to our daily adventures.
And yes, we did have Hare Krishnas trooping by back then, too!
The restaurant downstairs was nice. I am half-Czech, so I very much enjoyed the traditional faire, and we had the meat platter for two with duck breast, roasted pork, ham, sausage, sauerkraut (I love it, DH hates it), red cabbage & beets (again, I love, he hates), potato dumplings, potato pancakes, and potato crepes. Whew!
We also ate at two other restaurants while there...the Reykjavik in the same square just across from the hotel, and the Restaurant '7 Angels', Jilska 20, Old Town, King's Road. We read about both of these in the tourist info supplied in our room, and enjoyed both restaurants. The Reykjavik serves Icelandic food and we both had fish there. The 7 Angels served traditional Bohemian food..I had roast goose while DH had trout.
