"Pleasantly Surprised"
The first night of our Thai holiday involved a stopover at the Grand China Princess Hotel in Bangkok. We'd read some relatively scathing comments about the hotel so were prepared for something pretty average. We arrived at 11:30pm local time (2:30am in Australia) at the end of a very long day's travel so were suitably bleary-eyed. The staff who greeted us were very pleasant, and when signing in we were advised "we have very special room for you...very nice view". Yeah, yeah...heard that all before - but to our surprise we were ushered into a top floor room overlooking the city centre. The room wasn't over-large, but everything was neat and clean, nothing smelled of smoke and it wasn't damp and mouldy (two negatives we had read about). In the morning we went to the 10th floor for a very nice buffet breakfast - nothing extraordinary but fresh and tasty. When we checked out the staff at the front desk had to send someone up to check the mini-bar, and they apologised time and time again for the 3-4 minutes we had to wait. The hotel is in the middle of Chinatown, so we managed to get a 30 minute walk through the surrounding streets before our bus arrived. So if you're booked into the Grand China Princess for a stopover, don't expect the worst - it's very pleasant.

"If you want to spoil yourself"
Not the best location as only close to Chinatown but stay was excellent - clean, modern rooms, great bathroom, great views from terrace, a choice of restaurants and has health facilities inc. sauna.

"What a stop over"
We stayed at the grand china princess hotel as a stop over on the way to england. Its location is great, right in the middle of china town, the staff could not have been more helpful no matter what you wanted thay went out of there way to help you.we will stay at this hotel again, You can get a full range of food and drinks from a fruit smoothie to a full course meal, without even leaving the hotel.the ground floor has a full range of shops, and the staff of these shops are so helpful as well.I give this hotel 5 stars and recommend it to all if you stay in Bangkok.

"Great hotel for the money!"
Had a wonderful experience at this hotel. THe staff was extremely helpful and the restaurant in the hotel offered great service. Being from the US it was nice to experience the culture of Chinatown in Thailand and be a little removed from other westerners.
