"Good hotel, great location!"
Stayed from the 13th to the 20th of October with a Thomson's package which was really good value as I booked it about 5 weeks before. I found other people's reviews really helpful. Our room was at the side of the hotel so we got a lot of noise from the road on the balcony and it was quite windy at that time of the year. It would be worth getting a room overlooking the pool. Our room was a bit scruffy and needed a paint but was clean and a good size. I agree with others the location of the hotel is really good for walking into town and for the railway to Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Pompii. We went by hydrofoil to Capri (about 24 euros return). The chairlift up the mountain for 6.30 euros was brilliant, the views were great. Don't bother taking Thomson's overpriced trips, it is really easy to find your way around. Get on the Circumvesuvius it is really cheap, 6 euros return to Naples where you can see the Archaelogical Museum, brilliant! You can't get lost, the line starts in Sorrento and ends in Naples! One word of warning. Even in October the mossies were out and about and we got a few bites. I would recommend spray, an electric mosquito plug-in and something for the bites!

"Fantastic!"
We stayed at the Flora in July 2006. I always read reviews posted before booking & they were precise on this one. We had booked a pool facing room purely due to the comments relating to roadside rooms. The rooms were a bit small but clean & had all amenities necessary & besides, i wasn't planning to spend my whole holiday in the room! The food was lovely & the waiters provided excellent customer service. The views in the restaurant are incredible. Eat later on, if you want it a bit less noisy as guests with children ate when they opened. The pool was spacious although if you can't sit in the sun (as my fiance can't) there are no umbrellas to act as shade & the top end of the deck becomes full rather quickly (where the trees are). The Piazza is 5-10 minutes walk (turn right out of hotel) & has a vibrating atmosphere. My fiance is Italian & we were lucky to be in Sorrento to watch the World Cup Final, I have never experienced anything like it! It was amazing. There is an amazing ice-cream parlor about 5 minutes walk on the left hand side of the road (as you walk to the piazza) & a small department store (same side as i/c parlor) which sells food, sun cream etc. If you want to buy alcohol, beers, wine etc, its cheap there. One thing I loved was that there were no street hagglers trying to drag you into their shop. We were able to browse at our own pace. We didn't sunbathe on the bathing platforms- be warned, they charge 15-20 Euros for one sunbed hire! The hotel charges 5 euros although we only paid once. Take a trip on the Amalfi coast & Capri, its breathtaking, we booked our trips with Thomson except Capri - do that yourself, MUCH cheaper. To find the port, ask at reception, they have timetables.Take the single chair lifts right to the top of Ana Capri, well worth the views(my fiance proposed to me there!) Also, when you arrive at Capri, its worth taking the funicular, don't walk! Overall, I would stay at the hotel again, a good central location, friendly staff & it was clean.

"Excellent Hotel !"
My wife and I plus our 4 year old daughter have just returned to UK having spent 2 weeks at The Flora. The Hotel is excellent value, the restaurant staff are fantastic and were great with my little girl. Not to be missed is the Gala Dinner night every Wednesday- it is brilliant ! Location is great - approx 5 mins walk to good shops and 10 mins walk to main Piazza Tasso where all the restaurants are.Try to get a room at the rear of the hotel as the main road outside can get noisy but once you shut the balcony door you can hardly hear it.I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

"Super staff, super hotel."
A superb hotel within 10 minutes walk from Sorrento centre. Rooms large and well decorated - our room at the front on the main road side but with no noise at night heard through the double glazed doors. Air conditioning kept the room at 18 degrees so sleep was fine. Staff at the hotel excellent from the reception to the waiters to the lounge and swimming bar. Always on hand and very friendly and helpful. Food at the restaurant good, breakfast varied (cheeses, hams, pastries, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, bacon, egg) - what more could you want. Evening meal a choice of 4 starters, main and dessert (vegetarians catered for) with the starter enough to be a main meal itself!!. Swimming pool fine with always one side of the seating area in shade in you wished so sunshades not required. Only negative is that 3/4 of the pool is over 2 metres deep. Overall, an excellent base for Sorrento and the surrounding areas - will defintely return.

"Great hotel"
We have just returned from staying at Hotel Flora and think it represents good value for money. We booked through Thomsons and paid £460 per person for a week half board. The hotel is clean well decorated and all the staff are charming and helpful. It is situated on the busy Corsa Italia road, we paid a £2 supplement per night to stay at the back of the hotel which was well worth it. Request a room on 3rd floor or above to get a good view of vesuvius and the sea . The rooms have air con, which goes off when you leave the room but a credit card or even the local bus ticket will keep it on!!! There is a fridge in the room 10 euros for the stay ,we found it very useful for keeping beer and water cool. Although the rep said you needed to pay for the safe in the room it works fine without paying . The pool is large very well maintained, there are plenty of sun beds and people don't tend to reserve them .There is a charge for the white sunbeds, but the blue deckchairs are free and fine . The food in the snack bar is good. The restraurant is situated on the 5th floor with great views of vesuvius and out to sea.The food in the restraurant is very good with plenty of choice . At breakfast there was usual cereals plenty of choice of fresh fruit, yougurts, pastries, cakes ,selection of breads, ham ,cheese, egg bacon and tomato or sausage scrambled egg.The evening meal is waiter service which is always friendly and efficient . There is a good choice of starter main course and dessert. The is also a salad buffet of about 12 dishes every night. The food on Gala dinner evening was also excellent There are many hotel nearer to the centre of town but i couldn't find one representing as good a value.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

"A great hotel!"
We were a bit nervous about this hotel because of the reviews on this site. However, we had the perfect summer holiday here. We didn't pay for a sea view and had a balcony room at the front, which is overlooking a busy road, but the balcony doors were so good they blocked out all the noise. Our room was spotless. I think the tiled floor was washed every day. The air con worked really well and the bathroom was spacious. We were half board, but didn't expect the food to be up to much and we'd planned to eat out in the evenings. However, the food was so good and we ate there every night. Pool was big and there were always plenty of sun loungers. Location wise, this hotel is in an ideal spot. 10 mins to town centre and even closer to the station for direct trains to Napels etc. In total, we paid £700 for our holiday and it was worth every penny. We'll go back one day for sure!

"Loved Sorrento!"
Stayed at the Hotel Grand Flora, quite central, 10 minutes walk Piazza Tasso and Piazza Laura and quite near the train station. Very nice hotel, lovely food although got sick of the sight of courgettes after a few days. The tiramisu was to die for! Lovely pool, friendly staff. Loved Sorrento, spent ages shopping in the narrow streets. Did so much walking there. Amalfi & Positano absolutely beautiful, but thought Capri rather over rated (beware trip guides touting on the ferry boats going over to Capri, as rather expensive & the tour didn't turn out as we expected, much better to make your own way around). Pompeii & Herculaneum a must to visit. Shops quite inexpensive in Sorrento, not so in Capri.
