"Fantastic hotel, town and island"
We have just returned from a wonderful two week stay at the Grand Hotel Miramare. We travelled as a group of 20 - with 7 of us staying in the hotel - and celebrated our wedding in Taormina town hall with our reception at the hotel. The whole fortnight could not be faulted. The hotel staff were amazing - friendly and approachable, and could not do enough for all of the guests. Fresh sicilian orange juice is available every morning at breakfast, and the food selection is wide enough - there are meat, fish and pasta choices every evening and the option to eat a la carte if not on a half-board basis. Food at the pool bar out of season is limited (toasted sandwiches only) but from mid-May onwards delicious fresh salads, fruit platters and bruschetta are available for lunch. The hotel itself is clean and comfortable, with a faded charm, and the most magnificent views across the bay. It's location is excellent - a five minute stroll from Corso Umberto. We are hoping to return soon!

"Fab Holiday"
Just returned from 10 fabulous days in Taormina. We stayed at the Hotel Miramare. This hotel was very well situated for our holiday. Right from when we arrived we found the position to be perfect. The main town was a 5 minute stroll in the evening slightly uphill on the way in but nicely downhill when returning. The cable car to the beaches is also only 2-3 minutes away. The hotel looked out onto a delightful stretch of coast towards the mainland. The vast majority of rooms share this view. The hotel itself was well furnished. We had a room overlooking the coast and with the biggest terrace I have ever seen!! The room wasnt huge but perfectly adequate with everything you could have wanted. The pool area was delightful, well worth the 186 steps down the hill through the gardens to it. The pool attendent was very helpful and a great charachter. The tennis court likewise was well maintained and afforded excellent views out to the coast. The staff were all helpful and polite. The hotel arranges for buses to the nearby beaches and were very helpful with other local enquiries. The breakfasts were good with a nice selection of pastries, cereals, fresh frust salad and yoghurts, cold meats and cheese, breads, scrambled eggs and bacon. There was fresh sicilian oragnge juice and good coffee. Worth asking for a specific type rather than blandly asking for coffee for which you are giving a large jug of coffe , nice but the cappucionos were far better! We took breakfast on the terrace which was very pleasant. In Taormina there were plently of restaurants and bars to suit all budgets. The highlight for us was La Giara. The service and food was exempliary and couldnt be faulted in any way. The price of 120 euros for three courses wine and coffee was great value! A must for that special dinner. There was also plenty to see and do in and around the town. Many coach companies run day trips to the sites. We went up to ETNA with a SAT tour which was enjoyable. A brilliant holiday very relaxing and chilled out a perfect summer break! We would certainly love to go back.

"Great Hotel"
We have recently returned from two weeks honeymoon in the Miramare Hotel in Taormina, Sicily. Although the hotel doesn't look much from the front, it is in one of the best locations on a dramatic hillside overlooking the coast. It has a fabulous pool, with free loungers and towels - if it's too hot for you, you can get some shade under the orange trees that surround the pool. The gardens are beautiful, very tropical with lots of fruit trees and exotic flowers. We stayed half board and the food was great. Plenty of choice, I can recommend all the fresh fish and the pasta dishes. The only criticism was poor choice of puddings - but you can always get a great icecream or granite in the town. The town center is a 5-10 walk away slightly uphill. It's a vibrant, medieval town with lots to see and do. The rooms were very clean and had everything you would need. It was well worth getting a room with a sea view.

"A super hotel"
We (husband, 9 year old son and self) have just returned from a fantastic fortnight at the Miramare. We were very impressed with the hotel. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the sea. The room was well equipped and clean and the view was glorious. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. We opted for half-board and were certainly not disappointed. We enjoyed every single meal. The hotel has a lovely pool which is well looked after. The pool attendant provides towels and loungers, of which there are plenty, so no-one felt they needed to "reserve" them at the crack of dawn!! The location of the hotel is perfect - a short stroll into town and also easily accesible for the bus and cable car station. If you fancy a pleasant walk, it is possible to walk down to Mazzarro (the beach area) from steps near the hotel and then return by cable car. Taormina is a lovely town - plenty to look at and lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. If we were nit-picking, we would mention two very small negatives. Firstly, the hotel could do with a more atmospheric bar. It is, as mentioned in an earlier review, a bit like someone's lounge! Also, some of the decor is now getting to the point where it needs updating. These are very minor points though and definitely did not detract from a wonderful holiday.
