"Superb hotel in good location"
Probably the best hotel I've stayed in (for business or pleasure) in a good lcoation 10-15 minutes walk from the main town (and near the bus station). Upgraded to a room with balcony and sea view, which was fantastic. Buffet breakfast was lovely but didn't eat other meals there as lots of restaurants near by were open, even though we were out of season.
Could not praise the hotel highly enough - staff were all very friendly and helpful.

"Great hotel in a great town"
I stayed at the San Pietro as part of my honeymoon in April 2006. We booked a superior double with views of both the sea and Mount Etna. The hotel was 1st class. I had arranged for a taxi to collect us at the airport through the hotel and it was there on time. I had arranged flowers, fruit and champagne for us upon our arrival at the hotel and again, the service was excellent. The room was a little small, but all you could wish for. It had a great balcony with great views and all the extras you would expect. The staff were exceptionally helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the town centre, up a number of steps, but it is quite a pleasant walk.
Taormina is also a great town and I would recommend a couple of hours at the nearby town of Castlemola as long as your not afraid of heights.

"Lovely hotel, good location"
Have just returned from the Grand Hotel San Pietro and it was fantastic! The rooms are a decent size, spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished, with large balconies with amazing views of the sea (Etna from some rooms) and the beautiful pool. Make sure you book a superior room rather than the basic room otherwise you will not have a sea view/balcony (but the garden view is still pleasant).
The walk into town is only about 10 mins maximum (we were a bit worried as it wasn't clear how far the walk was on various websites or if in fact whether it was walkable) and very pleasant. There are some fairly steep steps at the very beginning of the walk which might be problematic for older guests however. Also a 5-10 min walk to bus terminal.
The staff went out of their way to help us and the hotel has a very friendly feel. Only slight criticism is that the staff are a little slow and disorganised at breakfast but this should not put you off - breakfast is served on a stunning terrace overlooking the sea.
We were worried about booking it (especially regarding its location) but so glad we took the risk!
