In 1906 the Grand Hotel Timeo & Villa Flora welcomed the German emperor, Kaiser Wilhelm II, after whom the hotels most prestigious suite is named. Surrounded by a park of 25,000 square metres filled with numerous tropical species, the historic hotel is famous for its literary terrace. With its spectacular views it has always been a privileged meeting-place for illustrious guests.

Grand Hotel Timeo & Villa Flora is positioned in the heart of the historic centre of Taormina, in front of the Greek Theatre, with a breathtaking panoramic view over the bay of Naxos and impressive Mount Etna. Richly and elegantly furnished, this hotel offers the top services required to its standard and a warm hospitality which makes one feel like being at home. The true centre of the hotel is the expansive terrace which all the communal rooms overview, divided into outdoor dining area and sitting areas with plump wicker sofas from which one can enjoy the view.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Its gourmet restaurant is called Il Dito E La Luna and offers a selection of Sicilian and Mediterranean cuisine, in particular based on fresh fish and seafood dishes, with a rich wine list. The restaurant, which takes it name from a statue of a Greek god set on the front terrace that seems to indicate the mood with its finger. Is divided into two contrasting rooms, one with arches and original dark mahogany panels and the other luminous and airy with surroundings full length windows, gives a spectacular view on the coast and Etna Volcano.

* There are two communal areas with sofas and tea tables called 'La Floresta' and 'Otto Geleg'. An American Bar called 'La Zagara' with an Arabian architecture and a beautiful restaurant called 'Il Dito E La Luna'.

* The hotel offers a restaurant, outdoor swimming pool and Health & Fitness Centre. A multifunctional conference room is available for meetings, gala dinners and fashion shows, providing an exclusive atmosphere and excellent service.

* The 83 air-conditioned guest rooms and suites feature antique-style furnishings and extend to balconies or terraces; all include minibars, bathrobes and slippers. Some rooms are located in the new annexe building, Villa Flora.

"Stunning service, views and rooms"
Third stay at the Grand Timeo. The only 5starL hotel in Taormina. Whilst right next door to the Greek theatre, the Timeo is a haven of tranquillity. The extensive gardens full of orange and lemon trees, the pool overlooking the bay, the terraces with a view up to the Greek ruins. Though expensive, the rooms are lovely and the service is attentive and personal. Though the restaurant is good you have so many excellent choice in town that it would be a shame to only eat at the hotel. There is also a shuttle bus down to the beach (sant andrea hotel run by same chain) All in all a beautiful stay without the stuffyness of the San Domenico hotel.

"Beautiful"
Whilst one had doubts about this hotel due to the reviews that I had read this was, by far, the most enjoyable, engaging, beautiful trip I had ever had the pleasure of undertaking. I booked two 'double superior' rooms, both were clean, beautifully turned out, and all the plumbing worked.The bathroom was historic !!! Staff were always polite and courteous and attended to whatever we asked for. They looked after my parents too, who also enjoyed the facilities on offer. Good breakfast selection, even a gannet like me was catered for. Good fresh breads, cooked meats, and a vast selection of juices were enjoyed by all. In the evenings the piano player filled the corridors with lovely tunes, and they were much appreciatted. All in all, one hell of a stay and we will return. It was a priviledge to stay there, and I was overjoyed to get the two rooms for a great deal less than what I expected. Top marks.

"An oasis at the end of a long vacation"
The hotel was PERFECT!! It is truly an old world 5 star hotel, with beautiful rooms, gardens, and common areas. The staff was curteous and helpful. The pool is great, with waitered food and drink service and spectacular views. The food was quite good. The hotel sits next to an archeological site, and we enjoed concerts performed there live from the hotel's terraces. The rooms were spacious and had adequae AC (WOW!). The bath rooms were old European with a heated towel rack. The bed was hard. English TV included CNN and a movie (WOW again!). While in Taormino, eat at Maffei's. The food surpassed anything else we ate in all of Sicily at the atmosphere was romantic and lovely. (Eat in the terrace outdoors.)
