"Living up to HYATT standards"
GHyatt Muscat is a great hotel to stay in for business and pleasure. The lobby is speacious with Arabian touch al over the place. My room was big, new and had an excellent bathoom with plenty of space. The hotel has couple of resturants, and they all were jamm packed. The main resturant serving breakfast offered excellent food with whole lot of varaities to enjoy. I also had dinner in a Thai eatery (an open area by the pool ), which was OK. The wet area is nicely strteched and the hotel has excellent private beach, though it get connected to the public one at some point. Cons: One concern was the service which didnt match every other great hting in this hotel (In particular, the front disk) The hotel is Not competetive copmared to the rest in Muscat, but it sure stands out as one of the preffered there. Would come back!

"Omani Dreams at the Hyatt"
Booked this hotel a few months early to get a rate. We arrived from Dubai, so extremely happy with the slower pace of things. I am not including the front desk in that description. No line, they were extremely efficient, pulled up the reservation immediately. The nicest people ever. The hotel itself is amazing. Very new and clean but architecturally, very old style Arabic, gorgeous. We had a HUGE double room with a view of the pool and the sea. The pool is clean and I'm rather fussy about that. Poolside restaurant is great. I can't say enough about this hotel and I travel alot, sometimes bed and breakfast, sometimes the most expensive hotels. This is absolutely a winner for the money in my book. I must mention, I never saw kids, and it is known as a business man's hotel. We saw a lot of older couples and "kids" meaning in their 20's and 30's. Also, it's about 20 min. from the souk, but the closest luxury hotel to the city as far as I know. Also, if you care, the hotel is in the embassy district. All the beautiful homes. and on the beach.

"I love Oman"
I stayed at the Muscat Grand Hyatt at the end of May/beginning of June 2007 (4 nights). The hotel itself is lovely - the rooms are large, decent amenities, comfortable beds, very quiet. The pool is nice and large, with lots of umbrella shades, and the lazy river is fun (but very short). There is also a shaded tot pool for the very wee ones. The attendants offered cool towels on occasion, and were there to take drink/food orders, but were otherwise in the background. I can't really comment on the restaurants. I only at at the breakfast buffet (cold), and while it is overpriced (what hotel buffet isn't, outside Las Vegas?), it was good quality and very nice service. The gym is well equipped. And I did have a spa treatment, which happened to be at a facility located just outside the hotel property. I didn't realize this - no matter, the service was good and the treatment was excellent. The only downside to my trip was that the concierge didn't seem to be very knowledgeable or connected to information. There was a mishap of misinformation which caused me to spend more time driving than I would have liked, but the hotel management did work towards making amends. The hotel location is just fine - you'll need a taxi or car rental (driving is easy, safe) to get to Old Muscat to the souq, as it is 20km away. But everything is very spreadout in Muscat/Muttrah, so this shouldn't be a shock, as the Hyatt is actually very centrally located (Embassy district). I really did enjoy the hotel and Oman in general. I would probably stay at the Chedi or Al Bustan (given repairs/renovations) next time if on vacation, just for a different pace/view. But for the business traveller, the Hyatt would be the place I would stay at.
