"We had a wonderful time, great service and suite"
We loved it, distinctive hotel with a wonderful location. Every suite was different. Must take history tour and visit Rundale Palace.

"Simply the best!"
Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Grand Palace. Simply outstanding small luxury property - perfect location in the very best part of Old Town, just off Dome Square and fare away from any 'excesses' of weekend revelery. Contrary to some comments below I could not fault the staff - both front desk and restaurant. Where else in this day and age do you have beautiful cooked to order breakfast (in addition to a full buffet with plenty of variety) included in the room rate as standard. Housekeeping staff were first class with two full services each day, front desk could not have been more helpful in getting hotel car to ferry less mobile members of our party to the Opera (10 mins walk) and to pick us up after the performance. I would rate this hotel with the finest of small European deluxe hotels. Ignore all the nonsense in previous reviews about cigar smoke at breakfast etc. as the non-smoking laws in Latvia now ensure that this unpleasantness is banished to history!
ps I also stayed at Alberts the previous week which I enjoyed very much as an excellent 3* but Grand Palace is in a completely different class.

"The Claridges of Riga"
I have read some of the reviews of this hotel, posted on TRIP ADVISOR, and must confess to being mystified.
How ANYONE could find fault with this superb hotel is utterly beyond me.
The level of comfort and service was truly exemplary, as good as a 5* West End hotel in London, and with better, more polite and charming staff than you would find in some of the more pompous establishments there.
Rooms are large and bathrooms luxurious. The beds are very comfortable indeed and the breakfast is a wonderful experience in the exquisite Orangerie Restaurant, with a la carte dishes available too.
There was NO problem with smoking in this hotel, and two entire floors of non-smoking rooms certainly should satisfy those guests requiring a smoke free atmosphere.
I would love to return here soon, for a longer stay. There are few hotels in this part of the world that could possibly match the Grand Palace. Go there as soon as you can...and enjoy Riga too! A great, cosmopolitan city with fabulous restaurants and nice local people!
