Enjoy Rome from the Grand Hotel Plaza...

Grand Plaza Hotel in Rome is one of the oldest and most prestigious hotels to be found in the Eternal City. Situated in the heart of the historical centre of Rome and only a few steps away from Trinità dei Monti, otherwise known as the Spanish Steps - home to Via dei Condotti and the best shopping in Rome.

LOCATION

Grand Plaza Hotel enjoys an exclusive position just a few blocks from the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain in the heart of Rome's historic city-centre. Within walking distance lie of many of the city's most important attractions, and nearby are the renowned shopping streets Via Condotti and Via Borgognona.

PROPERTY AMENITIES

* Continental breakfast is provided each morning.

* Bar Bistro Mascagni:
The mahogany-paneled walls and bar, frescoed ceiling, candelabras, gold-leaf cornices, tapestry wall hangings, and plush red velvet chairs offer a suitably grand setting to sample the hotel’s trademark cocktail, La Dolce Vita. Alcoholic drinks, juices, teas and coffees, and bar snacks are served 12pm-3pm and 7.30pm-11pm.

* Mascagni Room:
Frescoes on the ceiling of 18th-century ball scenes, gold-stucco ceilings, and red velvet and mahogany chairs decorate the ornate breakfast room, adjacent to the Bar Bistro Mascagni, where an American buffet breakfast is served each morning. The Mascagni Room seats 180 and is used for pre-booked functions in the evening.

* The Salone delle Feste, jewel in the crown of this Art Deco hotel, is a ballroom/banqueting/conference room that can seat 300 for dinner or 400 for a cocktail reception. Pairs of ochre-colored Doric columns hold up the Art Nouveau glass ceiling surrounded by ornate gold stucco cornices. It is lined by a marble-walled cloister and decorated with antique furniture – gilt mirrors, marble-topped tables and meter high chandeliers. Three other conference rooms – the Red Room, Yellow Room, and Green Room - lead off from the Salone delle Feste with capacity ranging from 20 to 70. Finally, there are two other conference rooms on the first floor and a business center off the lobby with a fax machine and computer terminal offering ADSL Internet access.

ROOM AMENITIES

* This hotel has 200 individually decorated rooms, all of which feature high ceilings, four-feet high, opening windows, brass Art Deco bedsteads with Italian linen sheets, oriental rugs, silk-upholstered sofas or armchairs, and black-and-white lithographs of Rome’s historic sites.

* The spacious bathrooms have black, white, and gray marble walls and floors. All feature telephones, Sorelle Fontana toiletries, two-person tubs or power shower stalls. Rooms overlook the baroque San Carlo church, internal courtyard or the pedestrianised shopping street of Via Condotti.

Lovely
My husband and I stayed here in the 80's and we loved it. Elegance personified. I'm going back to Rome next June and plan to stay there again. I recall how well located it was and had such charm. I am so looking forward to introducing my friends to this elite hotel. My husband isn't easily impressed, but he, too, has lovely memories.

"Great base"
I've read quite a few of the reviews posted for this hotel and if I had done that before booking I might have been scared off. In the end I'm glad I wasn't. The public areas are very grand and ornate which gives the hotel a 5 star feel. The staff were very professional and obliging. However, the hotel was very quiet so I can understand in the height of summer the service may not be as attentive. I stayed in a double room on the 2nd floor and it was clean. There was, though, a lack of attention to detail which takes the edge off of the 5 star claims. Missing or loose drawer knobs, the toiletries could be better, poorly stocked mini-bar, a generally faded 3 star room feel. A bath would be good to soak in after a long days walk around Rome. The room was a good size, probably twice that of my room on my last trip to Paris. The location of the hotel is superb with all of the major sites within a 10 to 15 minute walk, and great places to eat on Via Della Croce 30 seconds away. I would say that the hotel is trading on it's public rooms for it's 5 star status. I'd say it was just about 4 star but it needs to attend to the details a little more.

"Great Location"
We stayed in the Grand Plaza for three nights when Ireland were playing their last Six Nations rugby match against Italy. The hotel is located on the main street in Rome and is within walking distance of all sights and restaurants. Excellent restaurants within minutes walk and shopping on our doorstep. We had no need to use public transport or hire taxis for our trips out. Strolled each night to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain area and wandered up to St Peters Square within fifteen minutes. Just make sure you take the map supplied by the Concierge in case of straying! We had a twin room on the second floor which was, by far, the largest hotel room in which we have ever stayed . It was scupulously clean and was fully serviced each day. We ate breakfast each morning in the dining room and were very impressed. The staff were helpful when approached - it was extremely busy on the match day (also St Patrick's Day!) and a certain amount of the Italian temperament showed through when coping with dozens of Irish trying to get transport and directions to the Stadio Flaminio - aren't we all human! Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

"Pleasantly surprised"
We have just returned from a very pleasent stay at the Grand Plaza Hotel in Rome. I had already booked the hotel before I read any of your other reviews and was very worried after reading them. I can honestly say that we found the staff very friendly and helpful and did not have to carry our own luggage or see anyone else having to either. It is like stepping back a hundred years when you enter the Hotel, yes a little faded grandeur but there is so much more atmosphere here than in any of the other slick, modern hotels we have stayed at. The public rooms could compete with the Sistine chapel. We had an executive room which was huge with a seperate foyer, and though we overlooked the main street once the windows were shut it was very quiet. I would definitely reccomend it and cannot believe how it got such bad reviews.

"Elegant with world-class service"
This hotel is in the grand tradition of elegant European hotels. The location is divine, and the decor is predictibly opulant, the staff multi-lingual and nice. This is NOT, however, a typical "Roman" experience. In fact, the hotel could be among the top in any city world-wide. This is not a critique, but rather just a warning. If you are seeking "the real Rome", this hotel is not it. But if you are looking for "La Dolce Vita", complete with elevators, this is the hotel for you. And, the location is among the best in the city.

"Fabulous"
We had a wonderful time, the hotel could not have had a better location, loved the grandeur. Felt like a movie star when we stayed here in 2002. In fact, I was looking for it again online just to check it out again so decided to post here. Love love loved it.
