LOCATION

Grotto Bay Beach Resort Bermuda, perched on a landscaped hillside at the water's edge, opposite the airport and located close to St. George, remains a good value. A large wood-paneled lobby furnished with wicker and tropical plants has a window-wall that overlooks sparkling blue Grotto Bay. Several seating areas provide a comfortable place for guests to relax, and the roar of the occasional airplane is not overpowering.

* The Palm Court Restaurant adjoins the lobby, alongside a new bar. The hotel provides two more dining areas and complimentary afternoon tea. A poolside restaurant serves lunch. The beach bar offers drinks poolside, and it has a serving area for those wishing to swig and swim.

* The heated pool and more secluded whirlpool overlook the bay. Two caves are on the property; one is a stop on a sightseeing tour, the other a swimming hole for guests, who also swim at two cove beaches. * Rooms are in separate buildings spread out over a large area; golf-carts are available to take guests from the main building. All rooms are medium-sized and feature air conditioning, tvs, coffeemakers, refrigerators, safes, double or king beds, tiled floors, tropical furnishings and balconies. Combination baths supply hair dryers. The best units are those beachside. Buildings 1 to 4 are termed oceanfront, while 5 through 8 are oceanview. Rooms are set aside for nonsmokers and guests in wheelchairs. There is no room service, but the hotel offers afternoon tea.
