A great hotel in the heart of Riga..
Gutenbergs Hotel is situated inside of two four-storey buildings, connected on every floor. The main building was built at the end of 19th century and reminds one of a prosperous Riga's or a country baron's house. It's 3 m high ceilings, vast corridors with comfortable recreation areas and ormoulu candelabra. The other building is much older. The 1st building - 19th century interior, 2nd - 17th century wealthy monger style. This is ancient Riga, living here is a charming adventure.
Reconstruction completed in 2001 and Gutenbergs Hotel opened in 2001. Everything here is fresh and clean. Gutenbergs Hotel is a family hotel; any traveller far from home will find it good - cosy, lush and so typical of Riga. All things here bespeak centuries - long history of the town and this country, the time of construction its buildings: be it furniture, paintings or crockery.
Approaching from the Dome Square you will first notice the old wooden gate topped with a bas-relief of a bearded man. It is Johann Gutenberg himself, the 15th century German from Mainz, who devised the casting of metal types and, setting them together, printed words on paper. There are but a few dozen copies extant in book - depositories the world over of the famous Gutenberg Bible that saw the light in the first printery in Mainz around 1450. You will see copies of its pages in the lounge and rooms on the 2nd floor. Gutenberg's contribution to world progress cannot be overestimated: he was named the man of the millennium in Germany and the United States. His name is to many a symbol of culture and learning, of which Riga also possesses a fair share. That is why it was dedicated the hotel's 2nd floor interiors to the history of printing in Riga, begun soon after Gutenberg's great discovery. |

LOCATION
Gutenbergs Hotel is situated in northern part of Europe, Latvia, in it's safest and most peaceful region. Latvia has intact nature, the sea, lakes and forests. Riga was founded in 1201. It is wonderful pearl of Europe with architectural masterpieces in art nouveau stile. Today Riga is a city with wonderful architecture, excellent opera, many restaurants and stores, great world's best beer, elegant dressing style.
The Old Town of Riga - the heart of the City with its 14-th century President's palace, government institutions, offices, banks, narrow pedestrian streets, ancient churches, small shops and pubs - to suite every taste. There are people, light, merriment all night long. Gutenbergs Hotel is situated in the very centre of the Old Town, next to the great Dome church at the same time on a narrow twisted street, where noting disturbs your nights sleep.
You will hardly find a better place for your work and recreation. Everything is close to the hotel and easily reached. Parking is next to the hotel or in guarded parking within 3 minutes walking distance.
The sea terminal is situated 1 km and the train station is situated around 900 metres from the hotel, so can be easily reached on foot. Riga Skulte Airport is situated 12 km from the Gutenbergs Hotel.

* Restaurants:
Gutenbergs Hotel has 2 restaurants. On the first floor there is a romantic restaurant "Gutenbergs" with classical Balto-Germanic cuisine meals, wide assortment of world's famous drinks and good wine cabinet that together with silent instrumental music creates warm and cosy atmosphere.
* Roof Restaurant:
On the 5th floor of the hotel is situated the only open-air roof restaurant in Riga that towers above almost all the roofs of the old Riga. From the terrace you can see Daugava river, at least 14 church towers as well as the beauty of all roofs of the Old Town. It is the best place both for intimate dinner for two persons as well as for bigger banquets. On the roof terrace there is a bar and a small barbeque kitchen. The terrace is heated with warm air, 2/3 are roofed and two walls - Northern and Eastern are glassed to protect people from wind.
* Conference Facilities:
For conference and seminar purposes Gutenbergs Hotel offers "Johans" conference hall on the 4th floor with max. 80 people in theatre and 50 people in U style. Near the conference hall is a small terrace with a view towards the Dome church. The hall is air-conditioned and equipped with audio acoustic facilities. If necessary the conference hall can be blinded.
