"Good clean hotel with lovely food"
I spent a week at La Nina hotel in mid March 2006 and had a very enjoyable holiday. This hotel is situated in a shopping centre and my initial impression wasn't very favourable. The entrance is via a flight of stairs directly off the street and wheelchair users have to go round a long way to access a ramp. However once inside the hotel, the reception area is very impressive. Reception staff were welcoming although there was no bell-boy when we checked in to assist with luggage.
The rooms are reasonably spacious, quite basic for a 4* hotel but spotlessly clean. Maid service was faultless, came everyday at same time and always changed towels, bedlinen when requested.
The dining room was a pleasure to visit. There was a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff were extremely accomodating. There was never a problem locating a free table and the staff were constantly resetting new tables. The food was delicious at every meal, something to suit all tastes. Each night there was a different theme eg. Mexican, Italian, Chinese etc. as well as the standard basics which were always available such as salads, fish, vegetables, fruit etc. The guests were from a wide range of countries and all seemed satisfied with the variety of food.
There was an attractive pool area with plenty of sunbeds. There was daily and evening entertainment.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, excellent food and friendly staff. The only negative points were the poor quality of the facade and the floor tiles throughout the hotel which was unexpected in such a new building. Also, the hotel is positioned at the top of a steep ramp which makes access to the promenade difficult for wheelchair users or the elderly.

"Nice place to stay"
Recently furnished hotel, big rooms, new restrooms. A place to go. Food is ok for the price. An american bar for excellent cocktails is near.

"Perfect"
Over the course of Summer 2006 I decided I HAD TO get away. I just wanted to go somewhere on my own & relax and chill in the sun for a few days.
I decided on the Canaries for my hols and I work with a couple of people who had stayed in H10 hotels in Madrid & Barcelona & had nothing but good things to say about them. So after looking at the reviews on Tripadvisor I decided on La Nina. For 9 nights half board single occupancy in a double room I paid €608 through the H10 website. I thought it was good value. B & B was the same price so I went for half board.
The hotel is very modern & clean. Most of the clientele are Spanish but the staff all have excellent english. My room was on the seventh floor and the only slight gripe I would have is that there is only one lift to service all 9 floors and if you're too lazy to walk up stairs (like me - well I was on holiday) depending on the time you may have to wait a little while.
My room was excellent, very big, and I requested a sea or pool view and got both, as well as a view onto the street. The rooms were spotlessly cleaned every day without fail.
I was dubious about the food as previous reviewers had rated it badly. I must agree. The choice wasn't wonderful. Veal and rabbit stews seem to be the order of the day, and for some reason Hake is the fish of choice, I don't like fish but people who do may be kept satisfied. I can see why there may be a problem with the food not being hot. I always went for dinner as soon as it opened & even at that stage it was never what you might call hot.
It is possible, if you tell them before 9 o clock at night, to swap the next days dinner for lunch. This is a good idea if you want to head out somewhere for some decent nighttime grub.
Breakfast in the other hand I found fine, plenty of croissants & bread, some bacon (frankfurter type sausages I wouldn't touch), decent coffee (plenty of different tea choices) and half decent juice, plus yoghurts & cold meats (and even shrivelled up brussles sprouts one morning for some reason).
The pool area was very nice. No matter what time you went down there seemed to be no problem getting a lounger. When you arive you even get a token to swap for a pool towel every time you need a clean one (don't loose it they'll charge you €15).
At the pool there's a little drink/snack bar with what seemed to be reasonably priced food, and the chefs can't go to far wrong with sandwiches and light food like that.
There is a spa downstairs & I treated myself to a facial & a body rub/massage, the athmosphere was lovely & relaxing & the prices were more or less what you'd expect to pay at home.
The nightly entertainment is probably geared more towards the Spanish guests but not to far away just up along the street there are plenty of Irish & British bars.
The area around the hotel is nice and quiet, no loud discos at night. I never felt unsafe at any time out & about around the hotel and in fact around the whole resort.
There are plenty of shops around and a decent supermarket right accross the street will supply pretty much whatever you need.
A bit of shopping advice .... if you want to buy cigarettes the shop downstairs from the hotel seems to be the cheapest (by a couple of € for some brands).
Organising the flight and hotel by myself (and not through a tour operator) worked out really well, and €20 will get you from the airport to the hotel in a taxi.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend La Nina. I think it would be ideally suited to couples and maybe older people who just want to relax in a hassle free athmosphere. And definately its to be recommended for women like me who just want to get away from it all by themselves for a few days. I'll definately be back.
