Deauville: The queen of the Norman beaches.

Helios Hotel, of modern design significance and established in 1985, is in the heart of Deauville between the beach and the racecourse.

The hotel is also located 200 m away from the Casino and the International Exhibition Centre.

LOCATION

Helios Hotel is located in the city center of Deauville. Deauville is a commune of the Calvados d�partement, in the Basse-Normandie r�gion, in France.

With its racecourse, harbour, marinas, conference center, villas, Grand Casino and sumptuous hotels, Deauville is regarded as the queen of the Norman beaches.

The railway arrives at Trouville-sur-Mer in 1863. The station called Trouville, passengers can reach Deauville in 6 hours from Paris. The locked harbour was dug up in 1866. Morny, who had influence at Court, managed to sway the aristocracy that staying on the coast would benefit their health.

It buys land, builds large villas, palaces sometimes. A casino and hotels are soon built and rich tourists come in their numbers. Quickly followed the construction of Deauville's racecourse (called Hippodrome de la Touques). Deauville hardly suffered during the First World War. It is during World War II that with the German Occupation that Deauville sees most of its leisure proprieties confiscated for use by the occupying force.

During the 1960s, Deauville started to accept less fortunate visitors. It still is now a heaven for the rich and famous as well as holiday makers.
