"Superb location"
We have just returned from an enjoyable 3 night stay at the Hilton Budapest - Castle District.
The service was excellent; we were shown to our room by the Manager no less!
We had an Executive room on the 3rd floor with the Fisherman's Bastion right outside the window and views across the Danube to the parliament building and Pest.
The Castle district is very peaceful with very little traffic allowed through. We ate in several of the nearby restaurants and can highly recommend "Apetito" which is opposite the Hilton entrance. Superb food with an extensive wine list and un-rushed service...I'm sure we could have stayed in there all night if we wanted to!
Also try a large bowl of Hungarian Goulash at "Sisi", it's gorgeous.
Getting around Budapest is easy. We opted for a 3 day travel card which gives you access to all public transport. We also did a 2 hour "Segway" tour...lots of fun and a great way of getting round Pest without tiring out your legs.
All in all a very enjoyable stay in a superb hotel. Would go there again.

"Birthday in Budapest - Brilliant!"
My husband and I recently spent a long weekend in Budapest to celebrate my birthday and our 2nd wedding anniversary. After reading excellent reviews on tripadvisor and flyertalk, I decided to splurge a little and book this hotel. I was surprised to discover that the hotel was offering a "birthday special". At first I thought, "How does the Hilton know it's my birthday?" (I figured maybe it was based on data associated with my Hilton Honors card.) Silly me; it turned out to be the Hilton Budapest's birthday - and I was happy to share it. Our birthday special consisted of a "Guestroom Plus", a bottle of sparkling Hungarian wine and a birthday cake (delivered shortly after we checked in), breakfast for 2 each morning and dinner for two (food only, based on a set menu) either at the Hilton's main restaurant, a restaurant at the Hilton Westend or the famous Gundel restaurant.
Check-in was smooth and staff were very friendly and professional. We were given a list of recommended restaurants in the neighbourhood, as well as information on tours. We were delighted with our room, a very large, non-smoking room on the fifth floor. It had a spectacular view of the Danube and the city below, and was almost directly over the Fishermen's Bastion, an early 20th century structure consisting of ramparts, galleries and staircases in the style of a Romantic castle. The window ledge in our room was wide enough to use as a window seat, and we often perched there to look at the wonderful view, especially at sunset.
We enjoyed breakfast each morning in a large, comfortable restaurant. The hot and cold selections at the breakfast buffet were extensive and of good quality for a buffet-style service. We never had difficulty getting a table, even though the restaurant was busy, and the servers were friendly and efficient.
During each day of our visit, we walked to most of the sights we wanted to see. It was about a 20 minute walk down the hill and across one of the bridges to the Pest side of the city, and about a 30 minute walk back. There were other options, but the weather was lovely and we enjoyed the exercise.
We chose to eat at Gundel Restaurant on Sunday. We asked on Saturday morning for the hotel to make the reservation for Sunday evening and are glad we booked at least in a day in advance; the restaurant was quite busy and we might not have got a reservation otherwise. Note that if you wish to eat at this restaurant, men are required to wear jackets but ties aren't required. The restaurant has a grand, late 19th century fin-de-siecle atmosphere and is situated in a garden (I think you can sit outside in the summer). Service was impeccable - and friendly again (everyone we met in Budapest was friendly). There was also a quartet that played unobtrusive, classically-oriented music (some of it hokey but nevertheless charming). You could see that the musicians really enjoyed what they were doing. We were given the choice of either the set menu associated with the Hilton birthday special or a credit equal to approximately 12000 Forint (approx 48 euros or 65 US dollars). We chose the latter and ordered from the regular menu. We had a wonderful meal.
I can offer one other suggestion for dining out. Ignore any advice in guidebooks that directs you to Vaci street. This might once have been the commercial heart of Pest - and it certainly does have restaurants and cafes at one end - but they looked quite touristy and the one we chose (Anna Cafe) was incredibly overpriced for what we got (although the service was friendly). Instead, walk a little farther to Raday street, where you will find a selection of tea houses, cafes and restaurants with better atmosphere and better prices.

"Perfect"
love Budapest and so to ask my girlfriend to marry in the city felt perfect. The city was, as always, amazing but this time staying at the Hilton on Castle Hill completed a fabulous weekend. It is a standard Hilton, with standard Hilton prices but there is nothing standard about the views. The price was worth these alone. A tip for Budapest? Go when the snow is there - it is very romantic - especially from Gellert Hill.

Hilton Budapest on the Castle, is really something extraordinary. The atmosphere, the views and the service is Hilton with a +.
So I recommend the hotel for everybody doing business or vacation, it can accomodate both types of travel.

"Fabulous Hotel in the Historic Old Town"
Not knowing what to expect in Budapest, I went with the Hilton name. I was not disappointed. Our stay was during a heat wave so it was nice to be in the center of the old town. We were a few footsteps from the Fishermen's Bastian and many historic sites. We were able to venture out for a couple of hours then retreat to our COOL hotel room to become refreshed. The mixture of old world and modern make this hotel a beauty. The rooms were fantastic. We wanted for nothing! The breakfast amazing. We can't wait to go back. They won't cash travelers' checks so plan on another way of getting cash. Our evenings included dinner in the local restaurants while being serenaded by local musicians. Overall it was a magical stay in a truly romantic city. |
