"Manchester High Life Living"
We only live a few miles from Manchester but out of curiosity and a treat we decided to stay at the Hilton for one night. We had a room on the 13th floor with amazing views and we could pick out lots of locations from our window.
The room was very modern - a reasonable size I thought, bathroom fine. The bed was comfortable. The only downside was that, for obvious reasons you can't open the window, but the room aircon didn't go down very low and so the room was a bit too hot for us.
We used the gym which is a bit small but great fun to look out over the street and see pedestrians straining to look up at the tower! The swimming pool is a good size for a city hotel and I sat in the jacuzzi watching the sun set over Manchester!
I'm not a great fan of buffet breakfasts - they always run out of something I want (eggs this time) but I can understand why some hotels do it that way. So it was average for me.
We didn't eat in the hotel but dined at The Grill on the Alley which is located at Ridgefield just off John Dalton Street (about 5-8 min walk). It serves what it suggests - ie delicious charcoal steaks, chicken, fish etc. Good job I booked as it was packed out even on a Wednesday in July!!
We returned to the hotel about 11.15pm and there weren't any queues for the Cloud 23 bar. Maybe cos it was midweek and getting late - not sure of the reason. Yes it's a bit expensive - but there are beers and non alcoholic drinks for £3-£4 - not bad. We had a couple of glasses of red wine so think of it as £4 for the wine and £3 for the stunning views over Manchester at night!!
All staff seemed polite, warm and friendly.
I doubt I'll stay there again (no excuse really as we live so close) but it was a lovely treat and I certainly saw Manchester in a new light!!

"Cold Cold Cole"
Booked this hotel directly- Got a decent price but the size of it is scary- the reception area is functional but cold- feels more like a bank than a hotel lobby. we checked out before staying the night as we were not "permitted" into cloud 23 bar without queing in the cold and also as the room was mediocre and also cold.
Would never return.

"High-rise experience"
We had a midweek night at the Deansgate Hilton earlier this month as part of a self-arranged package of a meal at Juniper Restaurant in Altrincham (itself top-notch!). We had booked an executive plus room, which was on the 16th floor, and which afforded us free access to the Executive Lounge on the 23rd floor (we didn't actually go near Cloud 23, the cocktail bar on the same floor). Views through the floor-to-ceiling windows were great, and we could see both Old Trafford and what was Maine Road in the same vista!! Pity about the sensors in the minibar - is it just us, or do other people not like to have a little shifty through them without getting charged for every little movement?
The lounge was great, with all types of complimentary nibbles through the day (late morning muffins, afternoon tea, pre-dinner nibbles and drinks), and very friendly and helpful staff. We had a lovely breakfast up here the next morning, with good views of the city.
The 20m infinity pool was great, and empty of a Tuesday afternoon, although we had to wait a while to get towels. It would also be nice to have some hooks near the shower cubicles to hang your towel and goggles on (minor point, I'm sure).
Bed nice and comfy, and although the bathroom was nicely kitted out with robes and nice toiletries, there is a major design fault with the smoked glass section in the wall between it and the bedroom. Trips to the loo in the middle of the night wake up your partner in the bed when you put the bathroom light on!
We will definitely return to this hotel for a repeat stay. In our books it deserves a four, but not a five (something to aspire to), and we are aware of the tendency for 'rating inflation' on the website!
