"great stay"
i've read the other review and it is completely not true. i stayed there with a group of 24 other people and we all loved our stay in the hotel athena (for 3 nights). the rooms had a great view over the termini next door and all the hussel and bussel of life in Rome. the rooms were cleaned everyday with the beds made and the bathrooms cleaned. the showers were different in that they were difficult to manovoure but we got used to it. this hotel was a great stay and not at all far away from everything there is to see in Rome. i loved it there!

"Great stay"
I can't believe the reviewer who said it was a rip-off stayed at the same place. Sure it wasn't the Hilton, but it didn't charge Hilton prices! My son and I stayed there April 2004 for 10 days and I can't praise the hotel enough. Breakfasts were huge - self help and relaxed. The woman in charge of the dining room, whose name I can't remember, was helpful and super efficient. Our room was clean, linen changed frequently. Yes, the shower can be a challenge but so? The reason I'm posting this more than a year after we stayed there is that a friend just asked me where we stayed and when I looked at the website for the address I saw that appalling review.

"Don't believe the bad review"
I have just returned from 5 days in Rome staying at the Hotel Athena. I just wanted to refute the awful review that on this site. The hotel was clean and tidy, the rooms were small, but perfectly adequate. The staff were delightful, friendly and most helpful and were able to recommend places to eat nearby. They gave us maps and advice about buses and the Metro and which ones to use. There was plenty of choice for breakfast. Cereal, yoghurt, fruit, cheese, meat, bread, croissants and a variety of cakes and sweet pastries and a selection of drinks. We did have plumbing problems, but no nasty smells, and these were dealt with immediately and satisfactorily. The first room we had had no airconditioning but we were moved into one which did, as soon as we asked. Since our trip from the UK cost less than £220 per head including the flight, I think it would have been foolish to expect any more than we got. We just wanted a comfy bed in a quiet area to provide a base for sightseeing.
