nothing to complain
I stayed at Hotel Carlton for 3 nights with one of my friends. We had a double room on the 7th floor that had a little balcony with a table and chair. The room was nice but the bathroom was quite small. The windows have double glazing which is an extra bonus, so you don’t wake up because of the traffic noises outside. The breakfast at hotel is satisfying with a cooked breakfast (bacon, eggs, mushrooms), toast, croissants, cold meat, yoghurt, cereal, juice and more. If you don’t want to pay extra for breakfast, you can go ahead for many other options around the hotel. The location is also convenient, about 5 minutes walk from Atocha station. |

"Great Hotel"
We have just had 3 wonderful nights in the Carlton Hotel ,very close to Central Station and only minutes away from the heart of Madrid. We found the hotel very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.We would certainly stay there again

The Carlton is a good hotel for art lovers. As many other reviewers have remarked, it is walking distance from Madrid's three great art museums: El Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen-Bornemisza. It's also right near the Atocha train station.
The hotel itself is clean, comfortable and friendly. The rooms are a bit business-like, without great character, but more spacious than in many hotels of its class, and with many amenities. Nice big bath sheets. We had a quiet room on the inside court which is more a large shaft than court. Thus, no view to speak of. The street in front is busy and noisy so we were glad to have an inside room. As noted by others, the breakfast buffet is exceptional – ham in five forms! and a great array of breakfast pastries, fresh fruits, cereals and cheeses – and was included in our room rate. All in all, very good value.
There are two computer terminals in the lobby which can be activated with a credit card; 30 minutes for 2€, for example.
This was our first trip to Madrid and we chose the Carlton on the recommendation of a friend associated with El Prado. There are plenty of restaurants and wine bar-and-tapas places in the area, notably the delightful and spirited Bodega Rosell, though one restaurant padded our bill and tried to overcharge us by 12€. Unfortunately, it was a restaurant recommended by the desk clerk who was soon apprised of our experience there.
Madrid is a beautiful city, its inhabitants relaxed and friendly, magnificent architecture and art, food and wine. We look forward to return visits.

"Great value, large rooms, recommended"
We stayed for 4 nights in early May 07 and were impressed with the Carlton. While the hotel is generally a little dated in appearance, our room was large, quiet and very comfortable. Staff were helpful and spoke good English (eg: a request for some ice at 11.30pm was no problem and appeared in just a few minutes).
The breakfast (included in our rate) was truly excellent. This combined with the overall room rate meant that the Carlton offered excellent value for money.
The hotel location is slightly out of the way but is still close to all the main attractions.
FYI - There's a modern, late night convenience store just a few doors (against the traffic flow) down from the hotel. However just walk 3 mins more, on the opposite side of the road is an excellent (and much cheaper) supermarket.

A realy great hotel
I had the job of booking a hotel for a family group
attending a wedding in Madrid. Having trawled through many hotels i choose the Carlton and am I glad. None of the family could find any fault with any aspect of this 4 star hotel.
The rooms were great, The staff wonderful and the hot breakfast was superb. Would recommend the Carlton to anybody. Its very central within walking distance for shopping or Museums . I will be back again. |
