Inaugurated on March, 1928. The building was constructed by the President Luis Washington and its 199 members, hence the name "Club of 200".
In addition to the political figures and great businessmen, other celebrities visited the hotel such as Tarsila do Amaral, Carmen Miranda, and Rita Hayworth, among others.
In 1934 the Automobile Club of Brazil assumed that the hotel would be of great benefit to their members, because they could enjoy a refined hosting close to the Rio-Sao Paulo Highway.
In 1953, it opened its doors to non-members and common visitors.
