"Peace and quiet"
My fiance and I drove from Rome to Assisi and stayed at Hotel Fontabella for 5 days in Sept 2002. It's a very charming hotel with the view of the Umbrian Valley. Our room had a separate sitting room facing the almost never-ending green meadows. Beautiful modern marble bathroom complete with spa tub. Staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel has a very rustic old-world restaurant that served great breakfast.
Restaurant staff were English-speaking and courteous. I highly recommend this place, most esp. for people trying to find temporary respite from the hustle and bustle of Rome.

"Best 3-star in Italy?"
Could this be the best 3-star in Italy? Certainly the best we've found. Big room (ours was 601), big bathroom, big view. The staff are friendly and helpful. The private parking is a godsend. The associated restaurant, Il Frantoio, is good but expensive. Good base for touring Umbria, apart from Assisi itself. Excellent value.

"Perfect place to start."
The room was very nice with a magnificent view of the church and the entire Umbrian plain. Very friendly and helpful service. We walked everywhere in town from this place. The restaurant was quite nice and very convenient. This was the perfect place to begin our adventure across Italy.
