"Loved the Historia Hotel in Istanbul"
When I arrived in Istanbul, I was a bit afraid and stressed.... I don't know why. But, I had the chance to stay at the Historia Hotel and thanks to it, and thanks to its team, I spent a wonderful and marvellous time! I won't forget my holidays in Turkey! The team, and especially Mr. Onur, the manager, was very helpfull; they helped me a lot; gave me advice; show how to go to this and that place; explained me how to behave and what to do to get the best prices etc. Historia Hotel is very well located : walking distance to all touristic attractions (Blue Mosque, St Sophia, Topkapi palace etc. For the price, the hotel is very satisfactory : very clean, nice breakfast on a terrace; from my balcony I could see the Bosphorus! The Turkish hospitality is fantastic!

"A friendly, comfortable little hotel in Istanbul"
We stayed in this small hotel in the Sultanahmet area of Istanbul at the recommendation of the young Turkish travel constultant who was so helpful to us in planning our tour of Turkey last month. (December 2006). We got onto this travel agency via the internet, and he organised our whole itinerary for Turkey. He recommended this hotel to us because his friend is the manager and son of the owner of the hotel, also young and energetic and enthusiastic. The hotel is a small, narrow, wooden building painted light green, of several floors, accessed easily from the street. Inside there are beautiful marble stairs, or a small lift which will fit 2 adults only, or one adult with luggage. The decor is old style Turkish, and the young manager explained that his father bought the hotel only 2 years ago, and they will renovate soon when they can afford to. There was adequate heating in the rooms, and some rooms had a balcony overlooking the Bosphorus. These rooms were directly above the railway line. Trains stopped running before midnight, and started again about 6.30am. The train noise did not worry us, in fact I thought it added to the charm of the hotel, along with the call of the Imam for the mosque at times during the day. The breakfast was 2 levels down from reception, and there was a lovely courtyard leading off the breakfast room, which I am sure would be used in warmer weather. The breakfast was delicious, and the food simple and healthy, and plenty of it. Fresh rolls every day, and omelette and cheese pastries made by a woman in the kitchen, cheese, boiled eggs, tomato, cucumber and olives etc. We are cat lovers, and there was a pregnant cat that sat outside the breakfast area every morning, by the warm heater pipe, waiting for pieces of salami if anyone cared to bring one outside for her. Istanbul is a city of cats. It seemed that the locals are fond of them, as they appear well fed, and that was evidenced by the food and milk that was left outside the small shops in the area. There is also a hotel kitten called "Dingo" which stayed around the reception area and out the front of the hotel. The hotel cost 60 Euro a night. The staff are mainly young, and the manager and reception staff had good English. I think what we liked about the hotel was that the staff were so eager to please and keen for comments so that the hotel could be improved. I am allergic to cigarette smoke, and, like a lot of enclosed areas in Istanbul, people smoke. The staff in the hotel were smoking in the reception area, and the amount of smoke reduced quite markedly when we commented on this. This hotel is not luxurious, but if one is looking for a relaxing, place to stay which is within walking distance of many of the wonderful sights in Istanbul, then I can highly recommend this one.

"Great Central Hotel"
We were delighted with our choice of the Historia Hotel in Istanbul. The hotel is cosy, the rooms are clean & the staff were helpful, gracious & welcoming. The location is fantastic- only a few minutes walk to the main street, St Sophia & Blue Mosque. We left feeling that we could not have asked for anything more in our choice of hotel & that the Historia will certianly be our reccomendation to anyone looking for a hotel in Istanbul.

"A good choice"
We stayed one week at the Historia Hotel in September 2006 and had a great time. The hotel is very conveniently located; walking distance is REALLY walking distance here: the Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia are only 2.5 minutes away! The staff of the hotel is very friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. They are always happy to give (good!) suggestions of nice places to visit/eat/drink/party. The hotel is in a small old Istanbul townhouse, which gives it a sense of authenticity. The rooms are clean and air-conditioned, with comfortable beds. Some reviewers have complained about not being able to sleep because of passing trains, but we had no problems with the trains, even with the windows open. There is a good breakfast buffet with fresh bread, a wide variety of fillings, yoghurt & cereals, different fruits and drinks, and also Turkish specialties like olives and sigara boregi. Just don’t expect a complete English breakfast. It is very nice to enjoy your breakfast in the garden with a little background music. And don’t worry there won’t be any food left if you come later in the morning: the staff is quick with replenishments!
