"Absolute Best Time Ever"
The La Plantation was an awsome place to stay. It is spartan without being scuzzy. We had a room with an ocean view, so we got to see some water from the room. The terrace was VERY private and the complex itself was very quiet. You are only about a 4-5 minute walk to the Bikini Beach area on Orient. The staff is very friendly and helpful. One thing that we noticed was that the groundskeepers came through every AM and raked all the areas of trash. Not that there was any there to begin with, anyway. The restaurant around the pool area was wonderful. We ate breakfast there every day, which was included in our rate. We ended up eating there a couple of nights, once for Lobster, which is Monday night. There are a few things that travelers should be aware of when they come. These things did not bother us one bit, but we could see where they might to other people. One, the noise from the beach every few nights. Not people yelling or cars screeching, but just muted techno music, which we actually kind of liked. Second, the rooms are simplistic. If a traveler is expecting the Ritz, then you better look elsewhere. There is no shower door, so it is not like you are going to be able to take a luxury soak or similar. Third, the mosquitos are pretty bad in the evenings. Buy some spray. We didn't until the second night, and we were already on the buffet. The village is a 2 minute walk, so you can get whatever you need grocery wise, or eat in the square if you want. Make sure you rent a car, because you will want to go to some other beaches and eat in Grand Case or Marigot. Plus, Orient Beach can get a little tedious when the cruise ship crowds decend from the hive, so you can really only deal with two days in a row. We would certainly stay at La Planatation again, and plan to visit again this December. New Year's is a blast there, but if you want to eat, make reservations months in advance, and be prepared to listen to trance music until 9:30 in the morning no matter where you are on the village.

"Wonderful"
Great location, rates and accomdations. The rate includes a wonderful breakfast poolside. Beach chairs and umbrellas are also included in your room stay. You can have lunch at several resturants on the beach and charge it to your room. The restaurant food is excellent. Can't wait to return.

"Great Place to Stay"
This is a great hotel. The staff members are wonderful, very friendly and helpful. You can walk to the beach or drive if you wish. Beach towels are provided by the hotel, but you have to pay for loungers/umbrellas. The hotel pool is very nice and quiet, just to one side of the bar. Nice buffet breakfast included in room rate, or you can purchase a cooked breakfast. We had lunch there one day only and were given a freshly prepared BLT which was just great. Other days we had lunch on the beach or in Marigot or Philipsburg. Dinner at the hotel was fabulous. The chef is really good, we only dined out one night. I don't know how often they change the menu, we more or less had everything on the board the week we were there! Rooms can be up the hillside a bit, but the walk was not too bad, about 5 minutes from our room to the bar. There is an internet access point in reception, or you can take a laptop down to the Bikini Cafe on the beach and use their WiFi. The reception area also has a small library with quite a few books in English, so we were not stuck for something to read on the beach. A special treat for us was to find that Julie the Manager had spent some time living on the Isle of Man - we don't find many people who even know where it is! HIghly recommended.
